Shared Vision in an Organization
Organizations operate in an environment where their operations can be impacted by factors in the internal and external environment, hence the need to have a vision and align its operations with the vision so that it does not lose its purpose. A vision is also essential in measuring organizational success based on its progress toward reaching the vision. An organization must also ensure that all stakeholders share its vision to pull the resources and expertise needed to achieve it and that stakeholders’ actions focus on attaining the vision. Therefore, organizations need a shared vision to create the foundation for organizational growth and sustainability by influencing the commitment of stakeholders toward an organization’s purpose, goals, and objectives.
Defining Shared Vision
Kaiser et al. (2021) state that a shared vision is employee awareness of the organization’s future and strategic objectives. Developing a shared vision requires creating shared ideas of the future that promote sincere commitment (Senge, 2006). A shared vision is essential in an organization because it enables employees to adjust to the changes that an organization may make to adjust to the changes in the internal and external environment. According to (Celik et al., 2016), a shared vision plays a vital role in promoting organizational learning and helping organizations reach a shared level of understanding by offering a general guide on the knowledge needed to achieve the organization’s goals and objectives. Therefore, organizations need to become learning organizations and achieve sustainability.
Michigan House Senior Living Shared Vision
The vision of my organization, Michigan House Senior Living, is to create a community where residents have the freedom they seek and the help they need. The organization aligns its actions with its vision by offering services that enhance the comfort and freedom of the elderly under their care. The primary services include assisted living services and amenities such as medication administration and management, grooming assistance, dressing and bathing, memory care services and amenities and recreational activities such as shopping trips (Michigan House Senior Living, 2023).
The organization also shares its vision with its employees by training employees to ensure they have the skills needed to meet the vision and understand what the organization expects from them. The employees are committed to meeting the vision by providing the best quality of services and ensuring that the client’s needs are met. For example, a customer review on the company website states, “The staff is so friendly and truly go above and beyond to make sure your loved ones needs are being met!” (Michigan House Senior Living, 2023). Therefore, the staff at the organization understand the shared vision and align their actions with it to enhance organizational performance and promote customer satisfaction.
Conclusion
An organization’s shared vision plays a significant role in its development because it facilitates organizational learning, response to changes in the external and internal environment and employee commitment. Therefore, organizations need to share their vision with employees and align their actions with the vision. Michigan House Senior Living has created a shared vision with its employees and aligned its actions with the vision, leading to customer satisfaction and positive reviews.
