Pharmacotherapy with antidiabetic agents maintains effectiveness in optimizing glycemic control and subsequently improving the quality of life of all patients with the disease. Glucose meters and continuous monitoring glucose monitoring devices are examples of revolutionary diabetic technologies that helped bridge the gap in diabetic care during the transition to home-based care. These technologies provide the groundwork for caregivers to remotely monitor blood glucose, thereby optimizing diabetic care. Besides, Vieira et al. (2020) assert that the integration of glucose monitoring devices in telecare ensures optimal glycemic control. These devices thus maintain significance in improving the quality of diabetes patients and preventing long-term consequences of the disease accustomed to poor glycemic control. Other technologies in diabetic care that augment these technologies and have found considerable use in remote monitoring of blood glucose include insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring-insulin pump devices.

Another goal of this project is to outline how these technologies enhance the quality of diabetic care. As the global prevalence of diabetes grows, there is an increasing need to maintain safety in the wake of a growing number of patients. Therefore, healthcare systems across the globe are confronted with a high number of patients requiring quality care. Remote monitoring of blood glucose using various available diabetes-based healthcare technologies provides a framework for providing quality and effective diabetic care. These technologies allow caregivers to provide care to a high number of patients without having to be in the same physical space as these patients. Through these technologies, cross-boundary care is made possible. These technologies also bridge the gap in diabetic care accustomed to geographical separation and proximity, thus addressing traditional healthcare problems of poor access to care and healthcare disparities that face some areas (Lim et al., 2021). This reinforces the need for healthcare providers to know these technologies.

Project Overview
This project is designed to provide the nursing student with an experiential learning practicum in a setting where healthcare is delivered or health is influenced. Quality improvement projects allow the student to integrate newly learned nursing knowledge and skills. Students will integrate knowledge of nursing research, leadership and management, and nursing theories to design, implement, and create a poster project that will improve client outcomes. Written work, in the form of the project outline, literature search, and proposal, will be required, and a poster will be submitted for the final grade.

R&S Course Project Proposal

You may select a project for your poster within your work or clinical setting, in collaboration with your clinical manager or supervisor, or based on articles you have read. You may also look to the community in which you live for ideas that will improve client health. The project should relate to patient/client care, prevention, education, and improving patient/client outcomes. This is intentionally a very broad approach, with the outcome impacting and benefiting a patient/client population and thus improving outcomes. For project ideas, talk with your nurse manager, instructor, or supervisor, as they often have suggestions for a project that needs to be done. You might also have ideas for a project based on your experience in a particular clinical setting. Please share your final project idea with your instructor before starting your project.

Here are some ideas for your project:

Develop a management proposal to address a quality care or patient safety issue, e.g., falls, medication errors
Educating other healthcare providers regarding the safe and effective use of new technology, e.g., new article on administering a certain medication
Working with staff to write a policy that will improve communication among the staff in the unit
Teach vulnerable patients or populations about avoiding health or environmental risks.
Collaborate with institutions, such as a daycare center or homeless shelter, to develop and implement policies to minimize the transmission of communicable diseases.
Develop a disaster/emergency preparedness plan for a specific population in a community.
Collaborate with your facility information technology (IT) staff to design or implement an electronic health record.
