Role Of Government In Providing Health Care

Role Of Government In Providing Health Care

When it comes to spending per capita on the nation’s health care, the United States spends more than any other nation in the world. Tragically, with the occurrence of COVID-19, the government has a key role in improving the healthcare system for all its citizens here in the U.S. (Dorsett, 2020). This paper aims to explain the role of government in the healthcare system and the impact of technology in the healthcare sector.

An article by Mervosh S (2020), ‘We’re Clearly Not Doing Enough’: Drop-in Testing Hampers Coronavirus Response, published on August 15, 2020, in the New York Times, states that there has been a decrease in the number of persons being tested in a day for coronavirus. This has been brought about by the unavailability of the coronavirus testing kits. The unavailability of the testing kits will lead to the exposure of more citizens, leading to an increase in the number of infections and deaths.

Health care should be a right for every single citizen in the United States, regardless of their social standards. According to the land treaties exchanged between the American Indians and Alaska, they are all entitled to good healthcare services (Mull, 2019).

Proper housing is also a role the government has to play in. In a healthy home, there will be a promotion of good physical and mental well-being, unlike in unhealthy homes where one is exposed to injuries or chronic health problems (Housing and Health, 2011).

The government has a role in providing financial resources to its healthcare systems. Finances are one of the basic requirements to keep a healthcare facility running; the finances are required to ensure that major expenses such as human resources and medications are readily available (Health Care Financing – an Overview | Science Direct Topics, 2014).

Technology has had a positive impact on the provision of healthcare services; there has been the development of new treatment methodologies and improved efficiency. The use of paper has also been replaced with the Digitization of health records. Digitization of almost all aspects of the healthcare sector has also led to a reduction in the cost of health services, the workflow of medics has also been simplified, and care to patients has also been improved.

Information and communications technology (ICT) has helped in the building of a professional-patient relationship, which has eased the follow-up of patients. Healthcare care professionals are also capable of sharing vital information with their patients in regards to the patient’s health (Impact of Technological Innovations in Health Care, n.d.).Improvement of technology should be addressed by both government and private entities to the advantage of anyone in need of the services. Jones, M. (2018) states that technology has completely revolutionized the healthcare sector and has improved an individual’s health in a big way. The above-named articles have backed my support for the positive changes brought about by technology.

Conclusion.

Having a good health care system is a divided role amongst the government, private entities, and, more so, every individual by themselves. Every individual has a right to a good health care service but again, every individual has the responsibility of making sure they and the people around them are in good health.

The government has the role of employing more technology in the health care system to optimize the provision of health care to its citizens.
