This course helped me understand the concepts of organizational change, growth, and development. The assignments in the course and group discussion helped me acquire valuable information that I can apply in the real world to deliver effective leadership during organizational change. One of the most compelling topics learned in this course is the types and phases of organizational change. Modern organizations constantly implement change to respond to changes in the business environment; hence, there is a need to understand the different types of change and how they should be implemented. The second most compelling topic was organizational development. The rise of learning organizations makes it essential to understand organizational development and the role of managers and leaders in the development process. The third most compelling topic was organizational learning. I acquired new knowledge about the stages of organizational learning and its principles. Understanding the concept of organizational learning is vital for leaders and employees in the modern work environment because organizations have to constantly acquire new knowledge and competencies to maintain a competitive advantage.

The Significance of Discussions in Understanding the Subject Matter

Participating in discussions helped me understand the subject matter by giving me a new perspective on the topics discussed in the course based on how my classmates interpreted them. Developing a new perspective motivated me to look for more information regarding the topics discussed in the course to support my arguments in the discussion posts and adequately respond to the questions in the assignments within the course. Participating in discussions also helped me understand the subject matter by enabling me to apply the knowledge gathered in the course to respond to the discussion questions and support my arguments. I was also able to apply critical thinking to link the knowledge of the subject matter with real-world scenarios in the discussion, thus enhancing my understanding of the subject matter. According to Elder (2022), critical thinking is actively and skillfully applying, hypothesizing, synthesizing, scrutinizing, and evaluating the information acquired through or generated from experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication. I ensured that I understood all concepts in one topic before proceeding to the next. Therefore, there is nothing unclear that could be clarified.

Approaches That Could Have Brought Forth Additional Valuable Information

Learning approaches can significantly impact the amount and quality of information gathered. The approaches are categorized into social constructivism, cognitive constructivism, and behaviorism (Pritchard, 2017). Social constructivism includes constructing knowledge within social contexts by interacting with people with the targeted knowledge. Conversely, cognitive constructivism includes using cognitive structures actively developed by learners based on existing cognitive frameworks. Lastly, behaviorism includes a behavioral response to stimuli in the learning environment. One of the approaches that could have yielded valuable information was interpreting more case studies on the topics discussed in the course. Case studies could have enabled me to understand how I can apply the concepts in the course in real-world situations and get insight into how the trends in the modern business environment could impact the application of concepts such as organizational learning and change. The second approach would be reading peer-reviewed research articles about the topics discussed in the course to get information on how the concepts are applied in modern organizations and the trends in their application. For example, reading peer-reviewed articles about the measures being taken by modern organizations to deal with resistance to change, the trends in the changes, and the cause of resistance to change could provide valuable information about the implementation of change in an organization.
