Thank you for your post. I agree that equipping young learners with effective skills for solving mathematical problems promotes their academic success at their higher levels. Most educators focus on getting the results for a problem rather than understanding the steps followed to achieve the results. Educators should equip their students with different strategies and techniques for solving mathematical problems, allowing them to evaluate and identify the most appropriate method of solving and getting the desired outcome (Van de Walle et al., 2018). Educators should also understand that students have prior knowledge of a specific subject, influencing how they perceive things and skill development. In response to why there is no stronger focus on math in early childhood, I think the curriculum is the barrier since it specifies how the students should be taught. Also, the curriculum expectations hinder educators from attaining effective skills to mentor the students. I also think that educators fail to emphasize giving students room to make and learn from their mistakes due to focusing on formulas to get answers.

This is a great post. I concur with your claims that the continuous changes in the world significantly influence the teaching methods and practices that educators incorporate in mathematics classrooms. Educators need to incorporate strategies that help learners to connect to the world. The students should be able to connect and apply the skills acquired in the classroom to solving problems encountered outside the classroom. Educators should foster a friendly and interactive learning environment where students interact with their colleagues and participate in practical activities, emphasizing the concepts of constructivism and sociocultural theory in their learning process (Van de Walle et al., 2018). In response to the question on connecting the students to the learning content and the outside world, I think the educator should act as a facilitator and provide students with effective materials and problems that affect people in the real world to resolve. I think using modern technology, such as game learning, is an effective learning technique that would encourage students to be problem solvers, increasing their creativity in handling real-life problems.
