Response – StrengthsFinder Assessment

Responding to Post 1

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your insightful post on your StrengthsFinder assessment results. Learner, Achiever, Responsibility, Discipline, and Consistency strengths establish a good basis for the leadership constellation.

Enhancing Responsibility and Discipline

It is laudable that the emphasis has been placed on improving responsibility and discipline. The first steps towards managing overcommitment include defining boundaries and practicing prioritization of workloads, as indicated by Bartlett et al. (2021). Habits or strategies to try may consist of the use of productivity tools such as the Eisenhower Matrix, which separates tasks according to their urgency and relevance. Further, visible and easily tracked commitments on a timeline, such as through an online project management application, assist in keeping order and tracking deadlines.

Strengthening Flexibility and Delegation

The idea of enhancing flexibility through the implementation of mindfulness practices is excellent. Mindfulness can help to follow a planned schedule more effectively and better prepare for changes in the plan. It is advisable to dedicate a few minutes every day to any mindful activities or meditation, as these help to improve one’s capacity to stay composed when something unexpected occurs.

Another important area is to work on delegation skills and how to delegate efficiently. Delegating work to employees based on the work they are good at doing also reduces the burden and leads to team satisfaction and enhanced productivity (Koinig & Diehl, 2021). Applying specific feedback and outcomes related to delegation can help improve this skill, as well as reviewing the delegation strategy periodically and making some modifications.

Commitment to Learning

Commitment to ongoing learning is motivating. To remain current with the knowledge, one should attend the workshops and look for opportunities for continuing education. Also, one could become a member of professional associations or social groups that focus on the field and gain perspectives in expertise. Therefore, communication and information sharing with other students may be effective.

Responding to Post 2

Hello,

Thank you for the detailed post on the StrengthsFinder assessment results. Achiever, strategic thinker, Arranger, Relator, and Focused highlight the full picture of leadership competencies.

Enhancing Strategic Thinking and Goal Orientation

The stratified thinking ability is one of the great strengths. To build upon this strength, one could consider holding more frequent strategic meetings. These may include simulations in which possible difficulties are foreseen and solutions to handle them laid down. Also, drawing from role models who have mastered strategic thinking concepts can be helpful and diverse.

Improving Patience and Adaptability

According to Heinen et al. (2019), patience and adaptability are among the important leadership competencies that need to be developed. One of the best ways of becoming more patient is by practicing active listening. This includes listening actively by avoiding interruptions and providing sensible feedback. Flexibility can be acquired by adopting a growth mentality. Positive perception of adverse events implies a change in attitude and can enhance perceived coping ability.

Strengthening Delegation and Teamwork

The rationale for enhancing delegation skills is consistent with supporting teamwork. Every member of the team is aware of their duties because there are guidelines that demarcate their areas of specialization. It is important to allow the employees to speak their minds and provide constructive criticism since it is useful for enhancing the organization’s performance as well as beneficial for team morale (Zhu et al., 2022). Organizing team meetings, workshops, and other group activities can help to enhance personal rapport and trust within a team.

Applying Leadership Strengths in Practice

This case is a perfect example of leadership in the application of strategic thinking in the management of medication administration variances. Maintaining a consistent focus to find opportunities to apply strengths to real-world solutions will improve leadership effectiveness (Canavesi & Minelli, 2021). For instance, employing the Relator trait in developing rapport with patients can facilitate improved treatment outcomes. Likewise, the Focus attribute can be used to match treatment plans with patient goals in delivering effective and suitable care plans.

POST 1

Main Post

The Gallup StrengthFinder assessment (2024) identified my top five dominant themes as Learner, Achiever, Responsibility, Discipline, and Consistency. Each theme offers a deeper understanding of my strengths and how I can use them to achieve personal and professional success. Below is a description of each theme based on the Gallup StrengthsFinder assessment (2024).

Response - StrengthsFinder Assessment

Response – StrengthsFinder Assessment

Learner: I have a great passion for learning and the process of acquiring new knowledge and skills excites me. I am committed to striving to learn something new each day.

Achiever: I possess a constant drive for achievement and feel a need to accomplish something each day.

Responsibility: I take ownership of my commitments and strive to follow through on anything I promise. This sometimes causes me to take on more than I should, as excuses are not acceptable.

Discipline: I prefer a structured and organized environment to help me maintain and control efficiency. I am extremely routine-oriented, and timelines are important to me.

Consistency: I value fairness and equality. In addition, I ensure that rules and expectations are applied to everyone in the same manner.

Values to Strengthen:

Two core values to strengthen include commitment to learning and responsibility. I will seek additional professional development opportunities, such as attending workshops to help me stay updated with the latest knowledge. This will also help enhance my expertise.

Responsibility to me means being reliable, accountable, and trustworthy in fulfilling duties. Strengthening this value can lead to improved personal integrity. To strengthen this core value, one can set clear goals and priorities (Arman & Topa, 2020). According to a study by Arman and Topa (2020), responsibility in the workplace is closely linked to job satisfaction. The researchers found that employees who exhibit higher levels of responsibility are more likely to be motivated, which positively influences the organization’s overall effectiveness (Arman & Topa, 2020).

Strengths to Enhance:

The two strengths I would like to enhance include responsibility and discipline. To enhance responsibility and avoid overcommitting, I will practice setting clear boundaries and prioritizing tasks efficiently (Bartlett et al., 2021). Learning to say “no” to activities that exhaust energy can help increase efficiency and productivity (Bartlett et al., 2021). To strengthen my discipline, I will work on becoming more adaptable when unexpected changes occur.

Characteristics to Strengthen:

Two characteristics to strengthen include flexibility and effective delegation. My need for a structured environment can sometimes result in challenges to adapting to sudden changes. I will practice mindfulness during unforeseen events (Marais et al., 2020). Mindfulness practices have increased behavioral flexibility and work performance (Marais et al., 2020).  In addition, my sense of responsibility often leads me to take on too much alone. I will work on developing my delegation skills to lighten my workload and relieve some pressure I place on myself.

Initial Post

The StrengthsFinder assessment has displayed key attributes that shape my approach to tasks and relationships as a leader. As an Achiever, I have a constant drive to accomplish goals daily. This drive is brought by the desire for achievement which pushes me to work hard to reach my goals (Clifton et al., 2012). The Strategic trait allows me the ability to work through difficult tasks and make informed and logical decisions while anticipating possible setbacks (Clifton et al., 2012). Being an Arranger, I excel in making sense of dynamic situations and competing priorities to achieve these goals (Clifton et al., 2012). I believe the Relator characteristics is accurate about me, as I appreciate genuine relationships and find strength from those around me (Clifton et al., 2012). Lastly, the Focus characteristic is precise as I appreciate clear objectives while reducing conflicts to keep teamwork consistent and aligned with goals (Clifton et al., 2012).

Based on my StrengthsFinder results, the two core value areas I seek to strengthen are committing to continuous improvement and cultivating relationships with those around me. My leadership strengths include strategic thinking and goal orientation. I would like to strengthen my weaknesses by improving my patience and adaptability to setbacks, confrontations, and challenges (Rath, 2007). I would also like to enhance my delegation ability to promote leadership through teamwork while strengthening my Achiever and Arranger characteristics. I recently used my strategic thinking at work to investigate medication administration variances and devised a plan with staff to reduce interferences, which helped the med nurses deliver medications timely manner while avoiding med errors. By strengthening leadership characteristics and weaknesses alike, I hope to build a more organized and resilient team and positive work atmosphere in my future practice.

Reviewing my StrengthsFinder assessment, I see areas where I can improve my current leadership characteristics to benefit myself as a future psychiatric nurse practitioner by offering a transformational approach (Chan et al., 2023). As an Achiever,  I have the drive to set high-quality standards for patient care with a constant focus on areas to improve through evidence-based practice (Broome & Marshall, 2021). My Strategic thinking ability can help me lead as a provider through mental health care intricacies, while the Arranger characteristic also allows me to effectively manage complex patient scenarios (Clifton et al., 2012). The Relator trait allows me the ability to establish secure relationships, improve therapeutic outcomes, and engage easily with patients (Clifton et al., 2012). My Focus attribute will be advantageous in my future practice by helping me be dedicated to patient goals and ensuring treatment plans correlate directly with personalized care needs (Clifton et al., 2012). By translating and combining these leadership strengths into practice, I plan to provide a holistic approach centered on personalized patient care to better address the acute and long-term mental health needs of my patients (Chan et al., 2023).
