Research Paper Review

Research Paper Review

After reviewing the paper, the introduction does give a clear starting point in the form of a focused topic. The introduction briefly mentions the origin of the disease and its name, establishing that the paper will cover this disease. In addition, the introduction also mentions other aspects that are more extensively covered later on in the paper including the history and effects of the diseases on the world. I did not find any grammatical errors in this article, which suggests that it was proofread. Secondly, the structure of sentences in the paper was also good because they verbalized ideas clearly and competently established clear understanding through the writing. The same case applied to the word choice. There was the use of simple language and the terms that seem unknown like the virus names, are clearly explained, making the whole paper easy and very comprehensible. In addition, I did not find any parts of the assignment to be missing. The paper covered all the required contents under the provided topic.

However, there is a part I felt was lacking; the writer did not use specific data. For example, when talking about a country that was heavily affected by the virus, the writer wrote, “One Asian country and seven European countries are among the ten most affected countries with coronavirus, while more European countries are witnessing a surge in cases”.  I feel that this kind of information should be specific so that those reading the paper can easily look up the information and verify it. When comparing the number of lives taken by the virus to those lost in 911 attacks, the same argument held true. There are no specific numbers mentioned which is important statistical data for a research paper.

The conclusion was not repetitive but it did synthesize ideas, especially with the rhetorical questions asked by the writer. Consistently, one of the most significant strengths of the paper is the use of words that evoke emotions and imagery. For example, “A virus-like SARS-CoV-2 tested the resilience of even the most well-equipped health systems. Doctors and nurses worldwide grappled with a global supply shortage of masks and personal protective equipment”.

Research Paper Review

Research Paper Review

The most important part of the development of your research paper is having your fellow students go over the paper and give productive insight on how the paper is doing and if they see some ideas of what you can do differently.
The key to this review is offering a paper with as much content as you can to include for a worthwhile review. Abstracts only are insufficient.
When reviewing your peers’ papers, answer the following questions:
Does the introduction establish a clear starting point for the paper (a thesis or a focused topic)? Are there any other parts of the draft that would make for a better introduction?
Note problems with grammar, sentence structure, word choice, and other mechanical issues.
Has any significant aspect of the assignment been missed/neglected?
Are there any areas where you would like the writer to have provided more information?
Does the paper’s conclusion synthesize ideas or is it merely repetitive?
Note the strengths of the paper. Select the best sentences, phrases, paragraphs, and/or ideas in the paper. What/why do these stand out to you?
