Research Article Analysis-Mental Health Issues
Article One Summary
Mental health issues can be caused by congenital disabilities, genetic conditions, and sometimes accidents during a person’s lifetime. In this research article by Penninx et al. (2022), the researchers reveal that disruptive societal changes can also cause mental health issues. This research focuses on the mental health issues that emerged due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic (Penninx et al., 2022). The study shows that the pandemic led to mental health challenges due to the virus’s effects, such as stress resulting from employee layoffs, financial pressure, and loss of family members. The virus itself was a direct cause of mental health, which the researchers describe as the neuropsychiatric sequelae that emerged after SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Article Two Summary
This specific research was conducted through a review of other previous studies to try and confirm the claims that urbanization causes mental health issues. This study reaffirmed this claim and showed further that urbanization causes mental health issues through social, economic, and environmental factors that prevail in the urban environment (Ventriglio et al., 2021). The study also confirmed that there are more mental health cases among people in urban areas compared to the health issues among people in other settings.
The Main Points Addressed in Each Journal
The first journal has clearly addressed the causes of mental health problems, and even though it has not addressed all of them, it has shown how disruptive societal changes can cause mental health problems (Penninx et al., 2022). The study also showed that the COVID-19 pandemic led to mental health challenges. The second article also examined the causes of mental health challenges. In this case, the researchers have only examined how urbanization causes mental health (Ventriglio et al., 2021). The study also sought to substantiate the hypothesis that living in urban centers increases the likelihood of developing mental health problems.
Personal Perspective
From a personal view, these articles have addressed this topic excellently. Firstly, they have examined the mental health issue from the current situation, looking at COVID-19 and how it relates to mental health. Secondly, the articles have addressed mental health issues by adding new problems, like the fact that the virus also caused mental health challenges. Also, the articles have shown how the environment can be responsible for mental health problems. This is fundamental because, for a long time, mental illnesses have been known to be caused by other factors like genetics (Nochaiwong et al., 2021). Therefore, I believe these articles have information valuable to experts in the field of mental health because the areas of research are current and of great concern.

This week, choose one of the following topics for your article analysis assignment:
Mental health issues
At-risk behaviors and health
Search the South University Library databases, such as EBSCOhost and ProQuest, and find two peer-reviewed research journal articles (not more than five years old) related to your selected topic. Other sources, such as the text (other than as supporting citations), Wikipedia, and other online sources will not be accepted. Read and analyze both the articles and create a synopsis.
In your synopsis, make sure to include:
A summary of each of the journal articles.
The main points discussed in each of the journal articles are how they relate to the week’s course and text readings.
Your thoughts and perspectives regarding the concepts covered in each of the journal articles.
