Regulation For Nursing Practice Staff Development Meeting
Slide 1
The Board of Nursing has a mission to protect and enhance the welfare of the citizens by ensuring each licensed nurse practices their role responsibly. In contrast, the Professional Nurse Association represents its members legally, politically, and professionally. Unlike the Board of Nursing, the Professional Nurse Association provides a united voice that speaks on behalf of the needs of its members. The association also voices problems encountered in their areas of practice.
Slide 2
The board for my region is called the Maryland Board of Nursing. The board constitutes a nurse administrator, a delegating nurse, an advanced practice member, and an LPN member. To become a board member, one has to be a USA citizen and be a resident of the state of Maryland, have a Maryland registered nurse license, have the required nursing experience of up to 5 years, and have been working at least three immediate years following the application.
Slide 3
The state regulation related to the general nurse scope of practice is Maryland’s Md. Code Regs. Section 10.27.09.03 (A) insists on quality care. The regulation states that registered nurses should analyze and ensure the quality and correct impact of their nursing practice (Thorley, 1991).
Slide 4
The regulation requires nurses to correctly evaluate a patient and assess their performance with every medication they receive. The nurses should also measure the quality of the care a patient receives and devise ways of improving the health status of the patient. The law positively influences the caregiving process, cost, and effectiveness of healthcare by ensuring that professional nurses undertake their caregiving job seriously and conduct research and analysis to improve patient’s quality of life (Thorley, 1991).
Slide 5
Given that a patient is from another culture, the regulation will ensure that a nurse only conducts the care routine on the patient without compromising the patient’s health through the wrong prescription. The physician will make the right prescription.
Slide 6
The state regulation for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses is the Maryland Prehospital Act. The rule has been in effect since 1991 (Thorley, 1991).
Slide 7
The act explains who is allowed to provide prehospital care in the range of the EMS system. The rule gives nurses who meet particular criteria a go-ahead to practice even without supervision from physicians. The law positively affects delivery, price, and healthcare freedom by ensuring that citizens gain easy access to medical care through nurses (Thorley, 1991).
Slide 8
The regulation has remained the same in the last five years, as there is no plan to alter it in the near future.

Question
Nursing is a very highly regulated profession. There are over 100 boards of nursing and national nursing associations throughout the United States and its territories. Their existence helps regulate, inform, and promote the nursing profession. With such numbers, it can be difficult to distinguish between BONs and nursing associations and overwhelming to consider the various benefits and options offered by each.
Both boards of nursing and national nursing associations have significant impacts on the nurse practitioner profession and scope of practice. Understanding these differences helps lend credence to your expertise as a professional. In this Assignment, you will practice applying such expertise by communicating a comparison of boards of nursing and professional nurse associations. You will also share an analysis of your state board of nursing.
