Reflection on Professional Identity Development in Nursing Practice

Throughout this course, I have gained significant knowledge and skills that have shaped my professional identity as a nurse. The competencies outlined in this course have provided me with the foundation to enhance my practice and improve patient outcomes. This paper will describe how I achieved each competency and provide examples of new knowledge gained.

Integrate Leadership and Management Principles and Attributes in Nursing Practice

I understood the concepts of leadership and management in the practice of nursing. For example, I realized the importance of delegating work and coordinating a team to manage a unit effectively. This knowledge will help me be a better manager, as I will be able to assign tasks to my subordinates and guarantee that my team works effectively to provide high-quality patient care.

Use Evidence-Based Practice to Guide Clinical Reasoning and Judgment as a Basis for Nursing Decision-Making

I developed more awareness of implementing research findings within the profession. For example, reading about the latest approaches to addressing chronic pain patients has informed my practice and allowed me to make better choices relying on evidence to enhance patient experiences.

Collaborate in Healthcare Delivery Systems Settings for Improved Patient Outcomes

This course focused on the interconnectedness of different fields of study and practice. I understood how essential it is to cooperate and coordinate with other healthcare providers in order to have a common approach to patients. This will affect my practice because it made me realize the importance of working with others to improve patient care outcomes and ensure safety (Alderwick et al., 2021).

Demonstrate Professional Identity and Professionalism Principles for the Nurse Within the Context of Regulatory and Practice Standards

I also focused on the importance of compliance with the regulatory rules and proper conduct in all aspects of work. For instance, the role of regulatory bodies such as the ANA (American Nurses Association) has helped me appreciate the value of ethical practice and get committed to delivering proper care that meets the specified standards.

Analyze Agencies that Influence the Provision of Nursing Care in the Healthcare System

I appreciated how accreditation bodies like the Joint Commission and Government bodies like the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) affect nursing care through their regulations and accreditation standards. With this knowledge, I will be able to conform to these agencies’ guidelines in my practice to offer quality care and safety (Hussein et al., 2021).

Formulate Decisions Based on the Legal and Ethical Underpinnings that Improve Healthcare

I understood how to use law and ethics in decision-making in nursing. For instance, the knowledge of the concept of patient authority and informed consent has changed my outlook toward patient advocacy, where I recognize the rights of the patients while offering care.

In conclusion, this course has been instrumental in developing my professional nursing practice. It has supported the tenets of leadership, use of evidence-based information, collaboration, professionalism, understanding of laws, and ethical practice in decision-making.
