Reflection on Learning

To start with, since the beginning of this course, my key learning points throughout the course have been the concepts of person-centered care, nurses in health leadership, the involvement of advanced nurses in scholarly and research processes to help improve the quality of health care and understanding of complex systems in health care. The current healthcare systems have grown complex due to the interaction between patient factors, healthcare service providers, task-related factors, health organizational factors, collaboration factors, and social and environmental factors. According to Rusoja et al. (2018), these factors are dynamic and are prone to change and shift their nature in response to the way they interact.

I have followed through with all lectures and engaged in the learning process during direct tutoring and individually. I now have a better understanding of the concepts of advanced nursing, patient-centered care, and the leadership role of nurses in the efforts to achieve better health for individual patients or the entire society. The understanding of leadership from the perspective of a nurse has helped me know how to manage human, financial, and physical resources to promote interdisciplinary inter-professional collaborations to improve the quality and patient-centeredness of health care. I have gained deeper insights into complex systems and how factors within such systems interact to influence health outcomes. I now understand the importance of nurses engaging in research and the application of health statistics to make evidence-based health decisions.

I look forward to the next courses and further advancing my nursing knowledge and skills. Taking into account what I have learned so far about nursing research, complex systems, patient-centered care, and nurses in leadership and health decision-making, I am certain that this knowledge will have a lot of impact on my future advanced nursing practice.

Post should be entered to the Weekly Reflection on Learning thread by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. MST each week.

This assignment will follow the late assignment policy specified in the course syllabus.

Students are expected to submit assignments by the time they are due. Assignments submitted after the due date and time will receive a deduction of 10% of the total points possible for that assignment for each day the assignment is late. Assignments will be accepted, with penalty as described, up to a maximum of three days late, after which point a zero will be recorded for the assignment.

In the event of a situation that prevents the timely submission of an assignment, students may petition their instructor for a waiver of the late submission grade reduction. The instructor will review the student’s rationale for the request and make a determination based on the merits of the student’s appeal. Consideration of the student’s total course performance to date will be a contributing factor in the determination. Students should continue to attend class, actively participate, and complete other assignments while the appeal is pending.
