The artifact is a Classroom Design and Description Paper written on December 13, 2023, as a part of the EDC 722 course. In this paper, I expound my beliefs about learning and teaching to ensure that all students are treated equally in the class and give an explanation of the development of an intensive Early Childhood Education classroom for two to five-year-old children. In the paper, I put much focus on equal rights and safe education for all: Reflection on Classroom Design and Description.

Analyze:

This artifact directly relates to InTASC Standard #3: Learning Environments. The standard focuses on designing settings in the context of learning and prosocial interactions as well as learning activities that are individually and jointly constructive. Specifically, Performance 3(a) states that “the teacher collaborates with learners, families, and colleagues to build a safe, positive learning climate of openness, mutual respect, support, and inquiry.”

In my work on the classroom design, I stressed equity and diversity explaining how I would arrange for various activity stations into which the students will be divided. In terms of the standard, the design enhances a positive learning environment within the classroom with respect to others, and fosters support from peers.

Appraise:

With this artifact, I show professional development by showing how I will make the class accessible to all the students. It shows how I would set approaches that give fairness and deal with student relations. It is arranged in this manner as a result of my knowledge of different theories in education, Rawls’s theory among them. By so doing, the following elements will be given high priority in order to affect student learning positively and, therefore, enhance class participation.

Transform:

Based on this reflection, I intend to use what I have learned to further develop my classroom environment by actively seeking input from students and families. I also shall periodically use questionnaires to assess the learning environment together with the students to ensure that it meets the needs of all the students effectively. Moreover, in the further development of the plan of action, I also intend to include more activities that are aimed at encouraging positive social interactions among the students, for example, peer tutoring and cooperative tasks, in order to maintain the climate for the target learner that I have always envisioned.
