Great work with your post. The discussion focusing on chronic cough and elucidating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer are also helpful and evidence-based. What is equally important is that the post recognizes the critical role of early screening and timely diagnosis in preventing and treating lung cancer, especially in the populace considered at high risk, as Balata et al. (2022) noted. More specifically, it may also be helpful to include questions assessing environmental and occupational exposures, as these are important risk factors for chronic cough and lung cancer control other than smoking history. In addition, Murgia and Gambelunghe (2022) note that dust, chemicals, and other occupational exposures can lead to respiratory diseases such as COPD and lung cancer. Further, a change that may have improved the usefulness of this assessment is including a more comprehensive evaluation of the patient’s environmental and occupational exposure history.

Also, the suggestion to educate patients about smoking cessation and the role of digital health applications for behavior change support is essential within the post. However, such intervention must be targeted and developed based on the patient’s TTM stages and the level of technological application. Additionally, Onwuzo et al. (2024) assert that the stage of change must be determined because it increases the efficiency of smoking cessation interventions many folds. The clinical guidelines prove the suitability and efficiency of using pulmonary function tests (PFTs) and hemoglobin A1c tests as diagnostic indicators. Nevertheless, addressing the possibility of changing the existing behavior patterns and increasing patient awareness of treating these diseases is also essential. For instance, although medications like bronchodilators and metformin are critical, adding behavioral and social management, like diet and exercise, can substantially improve treatment efficacy, as argued by Yamaoka et al. (2019). Besides, in Sadiq’s (2023) assessment, lifestyle changes should be at the core of the management of chronic diseases such as COPD and diabetes mellitus since they serve to enhance the care of the disease as well as the clients’ quality of life.

Furthermore, given the overall theme of the post, discussing some possible side effects of Valsartan, including the presence of a dry cough, is relevant. However, like any other drug, the use of Valsartan should be further investigated since specific side effects can lead to patients’ noncompliance with the medication.
