In life, there are four personalities that people demonstrate. They are dominant, influencing, steady, and compliant (DISC) (Pilgreen, 2018). The DISC assessment test results consistently show that I am 47 per cent dominant, 14 for influence, 76 for steadiness and 97 for conscientiousness. Collaboration is among the four most needed competencies globally in most jobs, companies, and roles (NACE STAFF, 2019). Therefore, I can use my strengths of compliance and conscientiousness to enhance collaboration by communicating my expectations of cooperation to ensure that all the assigned roles are executed fully and thoroughly following the rules and expectations of the management. Besides, I can use firmness and Dominance to guide and educate the group members on the necessary guidelines and ways to work as a unit and achieve the set goals. A professional scenario that does not need strength is that one of the group members in our team is often lazy or absconding roles and always fails to meet the deadlines. In such a scenario, I would not use my strength but my problem-solving skills as the team leader. First, I would investigate why the group member behaves that way and then advise the group member accordingly without openly engaging other group members.

Reflecting on my collaborative skills will help me grow as a professional because it will help me easily identify my weaknesses and find ways to improve them. I will also remember my strengths and then seek ways to reinforce them and use them to improve collaboration. Collaborating with colleagues means working with individuals across the company to accomplish a shared goal (Smith, 2021). In addition, collaboration among colleagues is never hierarchical since everybody has the same status regardless of seniority. In contrast, partnerships with clients and families are hierarchical, and goals often differ. Most importantly, in family collaboration, parents are the most authoritative and have the natural skills to influence other family members in education and development, which is completely different from that of colleagues.
