Recent Advances in Healthcare Research – A Statistical Analysis of Nursing Study Findings

Article: Pitsillidou, M., Roupa, Z., Farmakas, A., & Noula, M. (2021). Factors affecting the application and implementation of evidence-based practice in nursing. Acta Informatica Medica, 29(4), 281. https://doi.org/10.5455/aim.2021.29.281-287

This chosen study examines the relationship between factors influencing evidence-based practice implementation and nurses’ socio-demographic characteristics. This research employs a descriptive correlation design to explore the adoption of evidence-based practice in nursing, including demographic and occupational factors associated with perceived barriers (Pitsillidou et al., 2021).

Focused Issue and the Research Hypothesis

This study addresses a focused issue that revolves around the implementation of evidence-based practice in nursing practice, more specifically in Cyprus. Therefore, the focus of this study is the integration of EBP into nursing practices by elucidating its barriers and facilitators. The research questions include: What are the main factors that influence the application of EBP in clinical practice? Do nurses’ readiness for evidence-based practice implementation correlate with their occupational, demographic, and educational backgrounds?

Statistical Technique Used to Obtain the Results

The multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was used to analyze the correlation between demographic characteristics and barriers to EBP implementation. This statistical method is used in situations with multiple independent and dependent variables, making it the best option for this study (Huang, 2019). This study deals with both independent and dependent variables and this justifies the selection of MANOVA as the statistical method to use. However, it is important to note that data analysis in this study is not limited to MANOVA but can also involve the use of other statistical methods such as queries and reports to provide a second scrutiny of results.

Opinion on the Value of the Research Study to Healthcare

This study sheds light on the factors influencing the implementation of EBP among nurses. Understanding these factors is crucial to helping healthcare providers develop holistic and effective therapeutic interventions. This helps improve the quality of patient care as well as the general health outcomes of the society. Lastly, the study is of great value since it can inform policy and decision-making processes to promote EBP in nursing practice.
