One of the differences between the two cover letters is that one goes directly to the point, whereas the other is comprehensive and detailed. From the outset, the sample cover letter declares the author’s interest in working for ABC company. On the other hand, Kacey Mickelson’s letter is more detailed and comprehensive. She begins by stating how she discovered the company and why she is interested in working for it. Another difference is that Kacey Mickelson’s letter is partly tailored for the XYZ Company. On the other hand, the letter to ABC Company has limited details about the company.

Usage of Tone and Skills

Both cover letters have employed a positive and professional tone to elaborate on individual skills. In both cover letters addressed to ABC and XYZ Companies, the authors have leveraged tone to communicate confidence in their skills and how their background will likely help the company achieve its mission. Although the authors show politeness, they are direct about what they are seeking (Mclean, 2015). Both letters also demonstrate a positive attitude. The two writers’ positive attitude is shown by expressing what they have achieved so far, and how they believe these achievements will lay the foundation for success if hired.

Moreover, the two writers have leveraged tone to indicate how their culture fits in the companies they intend to work. The two did background research about the companies they were looking forward to working for before writing the letters. For instance, Kacey Mickelson states how her class in Leadership and Management of Non-profits led her to discover the XYZ Company. She emphasizes that the discovery of the company’s fundraising efforts in Southwest Minnesota led her to develop interest.

Person 1: I selected the Finance resume and the Human Resource Management resume Regarding the Finance resume, there were many specific examples and action words of what this individual has for experience and what he did at past employments. Examples of action words include balances, provides, research, supervised, trained, and many more. This resume clearly states the name, objective, education, and work experience. This resume had no skills or abilities listed, which is an important piece to include. It also did not have a section for honors or awards. The only area that included a small portion of this was under education, where he listed the college, he attended and his GPA. The headings, bullet points, spacing, and logical order made all information provided easy to find.

Regarding the Human Resource Management resume, there were also many specific examples and action words of what this individual has for qualifications, job experience, and internship experience. This resume clearly states the candidate’s name, objective, education, qualifications instead of skills, internship and related experience, and activities. The headings, bullet points, line breaks, spacing, and logical order made all information provided easy to find. This resume appeared to be better organized and had more information than the Finance resume.

PERSON 2:

The two resumes I have selected were Tina Parker for Business Analyst and Gordon Gekko in Financing. Both do a good job pointing towards their education achievements, being effective with choosing which parts of their Education to bolden in order to grab your attention, such as GPA and degree.

Tina Parker’s is probably the more presentable resume as its style manages to grab more attention to each portion listed in the resume and gets a better idea as to who employers are thinking about hiring. She does not have extensive experience but her skills and education make up for it. Plus the use of fonts and columns organizes the resume well, making it easy to find exactly what you are looking for even from a glance.

Gordon Gekko’s is a little different, it is strictly business. It sticks to a rigid style that some may not be a fan of. It acts more as a list checking off all the boxes necessary rather than curating its style. It still does the job, breaking everything up neatly, but it is a little more difficult to differentiate working experiences from each section as each has the same font size and style. Gekko also lists his skills in a smaller paragraph with a smaller font, making it difficult to find and read when trying to figure out the kind of person Gekko is. While the resume does what it is suppose to do, it does not have a lot of personality and would make me pass on it compared to Tina Parker’s, even though there is more experience on here than Tina’s.
