Quality of Healthcare Week 2 HCM3008
How is the quality of healthcare data defined? In terms of accuracy, completeness, or relevance?
Quality of healthcare data refers to the data that is collected that healthcare teams use to provide their services more effectively. The information is used for patient care or planning and implementing strategies to achieve desired skills and for other purposes (El Morr & Ali-Hassan, 2019). In terms of effectiveness, the quality of healthcare is described as flawless data obtained; in terms of completion, the data is appropriate for its utilization; and in terms of its relevance, the data is very relevant for the function for which it was collected. Furthermore, healthcare quality is defined as achieving the entire goal by delivering the needed healthcare services when required while applying the appropriate procedures and diagnostics to achieve the best required outcomes (El Morr & Ali-Hassan, 2019).
What factors contribute to poor data quality in a healthcare database?
A variety of causes cause poor data quality in healthcare, including flaws in transcriptions, ambiguous data definitions and data collection rules, insufficient user interface, coding inaccuracies, insufficient data sources, data duplications, manual data entry mistakes, inaccurate data transformation, and unaccompanied data dictionary (Cichy & Rass, 2019). When the data quality is inadequate, patients are influenced in such a way that the quality of care they get may be compromised, affecting the decision-making procedure about their health in such a manner that it may result in a negative consequence (Cichy & Rass, 2019). As a result of these challenges influencing data quality in the health system database, several organizations have started investing in medical product connections on their own to help eliminate patient data oversights.
