Promoting Developmentally Appropriate Practice
Learning through Play and Motivation
One of the things I have learned pertains to developmentally appropriate practice. Typically, this is instruction accustomed to learners’ interests, skills, encounters, and age, which assists the children in achieving challenging and reachable objectives. This has made me a better teacher because I will use teaching approaches aligned with children’s interests, skills, encounters, and ages. This will help me to cater to the needs of all learners. This semester, I was impacted by the significance of incorporating and promoting play in teaching. Due to factors such as high violence in society, economic downturn, and other problems that families encounter, stress has increased among children (Bredekamp, 2014). Accordingly, introducing play and exercise to children tends to be a successful stress reliever for them. Notably, it makes children cope with challenging issues and learn better.
As the educator, one could improve their motivating strategies to help the class, as this will benefit not only the students who are doing well but also the struggling learners. At some point, the content may be seemingly challenging, and what most instructors lack is intrinsic and extrinsic motivations. Therefore, enhancing the motivation methods could be beneficial to the class. Further, I can make a difference in the children’s lives today and tomorrow by making the learners believe in themselves at this young age. When a child feels that they can perform well or are intelligent, outstanding grades will be unavoidable. Believing in themselves improves their self-esteem, thus helping them today and in the future because they will take this attitude in life, which will help them succeed. Various research confirms that self-esteem has a vital impact on children’s learning capacity (Bauman, 2012). As such, inspiring and instilling belief among the learners can help make a difference in a child’s life.
