In a technological era, social media has become the order of the day. Sites like Twitter and Facebook are great for friends and clients to engage. Nurses have not been an exception, with everyone participating in different areas, but there is an issue of behaviour appropriateness for nurses on these platforms. Social media has a way of quickly disseminating information, but it tends to be a controversial learning platform in nursing instruction (Price et al., 2018). As such, there are codes of conduct for nurses on social media that prevent them from posting inappropriate things. Previously, I have engaged in conversations on social media that could be regarded as unacceptable.

I posted details regarding a patient that my doctor friend had been treating. I just got them from his phone and did not think it was an issue then. The patient had recurrent UTIs, and she was always in the hospital. After finishing a dose, she would take three days, only to have another infection. So my doctor friend committed to treating this patient until she was okay and did not get conditions for about two years. In addition, I intended to share this information, which was good, but I did it incorrectly by posting data gathered in a patient-doctor interaction. I posted this information because women consistently reached out to me with the same issue, and I thought posting the information would help them. However, through the post, I connected a few patients to my doctor-friend, and he managed to help them through a similar treatment modality, though sharing the patients’ details was inappropriate for me.

Nurse Responsibility to Uphold a Standard of Conduct Consistent With Nursing Profession in Personal Life

Nurses are responsible for upholding a standard of conduct consistent with the principles governing their occupation (Alharbi et al., 2021). The nursing job is rather sensitive because it deals with people’s well-being. As such, nurses are supposed to conduct all their undertakings with the consideration that they have a duty to themselves and others. They are responsible for promoting health and safety for patients’ interests in the middle of care provision. Additionally, nurses ought to uphold the standard of care to show integrity and appeal to win the patients’ confidence. Typically, following such a high competence level is vital for nurses’ career growth and evidence of showing care for themselves and others. Good social media use could assist nurses in connecting with patients and meeting their needs effectively while not violating their confidentiality rights or compromising their integrity (Henderson & Dahnke, 2015).

The nurses’ conduct has the facility to intensely infringe on the Health Portability and Accountability provisions. When nurses fail to sustain a high morality level, they may affect their careers and wear down the sureness that clients have on them. For instance, a nurse engaging in sexual interactions with patients shows the low value that they have for the occupation. Additionally, the individual conduct of a nurse reluctant to participate in community education might jeopardize the work. If a nurse is not participating in community enlightening regarding proper diet or wellness to manage health concerns, they might also fail in other responsibilities. In the same way, a nurse who does not communicate openly with coworkers could interfere with satisfactory role performance, particularly if they fail to notify them about the modifications in a given policy.

Human Value and Dignity for Others Consistent with a Christian Worldview

All people are equal regardless of their rank or jobs. Consequently, I have some level of respect for what people say on social media. Accordingly, as a Christian, I recognize the essence of allowing others to express their views. Typically, in God’s eyes, all humans are equal, and no one is better than the other. Additionally, I am very cautious about how I make other people feel, so I do not comment negatively on people’s appearance. I avoid discussions that dehumanize people; instead, words of kindness are easy for me to share. For instance, I am against posts describing people as ugly or those that discriminate against others based on their race or colour. Frequently, I post things showing oneness for all.

Even so, I could improve on some areas of my social media. I could improve how I respond to conversations to safeguard my professional standing and ensure that other people’s feelings are not offended. Additionally, I should analyze posts very well before reacting to them.
