Professional Liability and Medical Malpractice

Professional Liability and Medical Malpractice

A health care practitioner’s scope of practice is clearly defined by statutory regulations. These aspects are modified to match educational changes, technological advancements, met new societal demands, and research results. This can lead to interprofessional conflict making it difficult for providers to work seamlessly due to ‘encroachment’ (NCSBN, 2009). As a healthcare provider, it is important that healthcare professionals keep track of these modifications to ensure compliance. Compliance is important in avoiding malpractices in the medical sector and litigations that accompany such instances.

Healthcare professionals need to ensure that they have practice. Besides owning a license, healthcare professionals must prove that they have the necessary training to perform their roles. The process of gaining skills and knowledge is gradual because it occurs in stages. The entry level professionals cannot have the advanced knowledge that is obtained with time and experience. Thus, healthcare professionals must continue to increase their knowledge to ensure they evolve with the changing times.

Credentialling demands educational certifications that prove training, proof of relevant experience, recent clinical responsibilities documented in a log, references, and membership to relevant professional groups. In line with compliance, healthcare organizations must ensure that these requirements are fulfilled prior to hiring. The credentialling process examines the employees’ fulfillment of these requirements. The organizations responsible for credentialing go a step further to verify the evidence provided. This step ensures that patients receive care from qualified professionals (Patel & Sharma, 2020).

To ensure that I meet these requirements as a healthcare professional, I intend to advance my education. This approach should increase my knowledge and skills. It should also increase my chances of being credentialed successfully. This step also reduces the likelihood of malpractices which are associated with professional liabilities. The decision to advance my education is motivated by personal goals and organizational policies that require all professionals to continually acquire advanced knowledge and skills.
