  1. Formulate process innovation options. Describe your purpose for the process innovation and the reason for selecting it. Refer to the “Community Needs Assessment Worksheet” and the Chinle Service Unit Profile provided in the course to inform your answer. Enter your response below.

The main purpose of the process innovation is to address the increasing diabetes prevalence in Chinle and among the Navajos. It aims to improve access to diabetes-related care and health information through various needs-based and culturally-sensitive  strategies. The reasons for selecting the process innovation are that; diabetes is becoming a significant health issue of concern among the Navajos, most of the residents of Chinle and the entire Navajo Nation live in rural, remote, and hard to reach areas, a majority of the residents of Chinle and the Navajos live under federal poverty line, and that the Navajos have a unique culture that is not generalizable in practice.

Utilizing existing digital communication systems that have been culturally designed helps deliver obesity and diabetes care as per the Navajo cultural norms and practices. Integrating local resources, including communication technologies and civic education resources such as local churches and indigenous religions into the innovation process fosters cultural pride and community engagement.
