Prioritizing Patient Needs

Prioritizing Patient Needs

Information for Clinical Site

I was allocated to the Advent Health Waterman emergency room (ER) and Urgent Care centre in Mount Dora, Florida, during my practicum. The office has family practice (FP) practitioners and has no age restrictions. The anticipated clinical schedule will run from 7 AM to 5 PM from Monday to Saturday. There are three students per preceptor during the practicum period.

My Goals for Practicum

I have various goals that I am to achieve during this practicum. My goal for the first day of the practicum is to familiarize myself with the daily clinical schedule, including the time and place, as well as my roles during the first week of practicum. Clinical practicum is an essential part of nursing education, offering hands-on clinical training for students in nursing, enabling them to understand and develop basic nursing skills (Liu et al., 2022). I hope to have better hands-on experience in direct patient care as well as the communication and collaboration skills necessary for interdisciplinary collaborative patient care. The Family Nurse Practitioner Practicum Procedures and Experiences List provided by Chamberlin University can help with my first clinical rotation. It can help me understand the various primary care processes and procedures that I will probably be exposed to during my clinical rotation as an MSN student.

My Feelings About Starting My First Practicum Rotation

Since I have some practice, I do not think my experience with the MSN clinical rotations will be the same as my undergraduate clinical rotations. Regardless, the experience will compare with my undergraduate clinical rotations in that I will still have something new to learn under a preceptor though it will be at a different level and with more responsibility. The adjectives that describe how I will meet the opportunities and challenges of my practicum include curiosity, courage, cooperation, and bravery. Family and job pressure are the major barriers to completing clinical requirements. On the other hand, I have a supportive family and a work schedule that integrates well with my practicum period.

Three Resources to Use in the Clinical Setting

I aim to embrace evidence-based guidelines throughout my practicum and future clinical practice as a nurse practitioner. Notably, evidence-based practice improves the quality of care and patient safety and is linked to many positive clinical outcomes (Connor et al., 2023). In this regard, three resources I will use in the setting to identify the most recent clinical practice guidelines include peer-reviewed nursing journals, current research reports, and current and updated clinical guidelines in my field of practice.
