The primary objectives of U.S President Woodrow Wilson at the Versailles Peace Conference were dictated by the fourteen points he focused on during his speech on peace terms and aims of war. The speech was delivered to the United States Congress. In the speech, the main points that President Woodrow Wilson focused on were, according to him, the only foundation of a lasting peace. He mainly focused on pushing for total freedom of navigation on seas and outside territorial waters, eliminating economic barriers, and establishing open peace covenants. President Woodrow Wilson also wanted the Russian territory and Belgium to be evacuated. His main objectives at the Versailles Peace Conference were the establishment of a global peacekeeping organization, the development of open diplomacy, global disarmament, independence of territories that colonialists formally owned, and explicit renunciation of war (Duiker, 2020). He also aimed to ensure that the victorious Allies set unselfish terms to sustain the unavoidable connection between American national security and international stability.

President Woodrow’s objectives differed from the aims of other allied nations because the allied nations wanted harsher terms to punish Germany and receive payment, which is why the result of the conference was the disarmament of Germany, creation of territorial concessions, and requiring the payment of reparations to the allied powers $5 billion (Duiker, 2020). President Woodrow did not want these terms to be enacted, but George Clemenceau, who was the French Prime Minister, outmaneuvered him. France would benefit from the terms of the Versailles treaty because, being the only Allied power-sharing a border with Germany, it had suffered a lot of casualties and devastation from the machines used by Germany in war. France, therefore, wanted to ensure that Germany suffered as much as possible.
