Presentation – Teaching Strategies

Hello, and welcome to the presentation on teaching strategies. This presentation aims to provide details about self-directed and five cooperative/collaborative teaching strategies, their characteristics, differences, and application of each in a learning setting.

This slide provides the key attributes of the self-regulated learning approaches discussed in chapter 11 of the text. Self-directed learning is an approach to learning where the student defines the learning objectives, how they are going to achieve these goals and what they are going to learn on their own. Learners also think about what they are learning and assess themselves on their learning. This strategy may be appropriate when teaching an 8th-grade science mini-lesson on renewable energy sources because it allows students to investigate, do an experiment, and share their results.

These are the features of the cooperative and collaborative process strategies. In this approach, learners are grouped in small teams, where everyone is involved and answerable for their learning. This means that the focus is on positive interdependence in that the overall group performance depends on every member’s performance. Regarding the assessment of the learning outcomes, both individual and group assessments are applied. This strategy is ideal for a 4th-grade math mini-lesson on fractions and decimals, primarily when the students work in groups to solve problems and share their ideas and knowledge with others in the group.

Create a PowerPoint or Google Slide presentation on Self Directed Learning and Cooperative and Collaborative Process Teaching Strategies found in your textbook and/or research online.
You will select 5 self-directed strategies and 5 cooperative/collaborative teaching strategies. • You will select a grade level and think/research 1 teaching activity or mini-lesson that would be most appropriate to teach through Self Directed Learning and 1 teaching activity or mini-lesson that would be most appropriate to teach through Cooperative/Collaborative Learning.
Please use the following chart to concentrate your ideas. Remember that you will ONLY come up with ONE Activity/Mini-lesson based on the criteria mentioned.
