According to Aronson et al. (2019), the causes of prejudice include normative rules and the notion of individuals versus others. The leading causes of prejudice against people with disabilities are cultural and social barriers and lack of inclusion and accommodation. For example, people with disabilities may experience prejudice because the cultural beliefs in society view people with disabilities as cursed or as bad omen. Such assumptions can lead to exclusion from social interactions. Therefore, at a societal level, inclusion in leadership and social activities can reduce prejudice against people with disabilities.
