Potential Ethical and Legal Implications for Practice Members – Discussion Response
Responding to Brynna
Hello Brynna,
Thank you for your post. Your analysis of the ethical and legal ramifications for every practitioner involved in the prescription forgery incident is thorough and covers important topics that are essential to the practice of medicine. It is worth noting that physicians are held in high regard by the Federal Government and also by the general public. Hence, the expectations include embracing ethics and enabling them to offer quality services. Notably, the foundation of the doctor-patient relationship is trust because patients are the most vulnerable and dependent on the provider (Jackman, 2024).
Potential Ethical and Legal Implications for Practice Members – Discussion Response
Following, this, you have well highlighted the potential ethical and legal implications for the mentioned medical practitioners. For instance, you have suggested that there would be ethical implications for the MA due to the incident. Indeed, the incident could significantly affect the MA’s career and reputation in healthcare. Further, you have well stated that there would be legal and ethical implications for the nurse practitioner if she was unable to prove her innocence. Notably, nurse practitioners need to maintain accurate records as they are essential for patient safety as high-quality care and patient safety are enhanced by proper recordkeeping (Kellicutt, 2023). Moreover, nurses can guarantee that their patients receive the appropriate care at the appropriate time by maintaining thorough and accurate medical records. Lastly, as you have mentioned, the medical director would also be liable as he is responsible for managing how the drugs are prescribed within the practice.
Subsequently, you have suggested several strategies that could be implemented to prevent further episodes of potentially illegal behavior. In addition, education and training would also be very helpful as they focus on appropriate drug prescription practices and transparent team member communication (Jaam et al., 2021). Furthermore, I agree with the leadership qualities you would apply to effect a positive change in the practice. Through the proposed strategies and by adopting the described leadership characteristics, the practice can minimize the likelihood of future ethical and legal concerns in addition to focusing on staff appreciation, friendliness, and support. In addition to yielding positive results to the patients, this approach also facilitates professional development and unity amongst the practice’s workers.
