Positive Social Change and the DNP-Prepared Nurse

Positive Social Change and the DNP-Prepared Nurse

Nurses in the healthcare field play a critical role in the provision of healthcare services through the use of care coordination and interprofessional collaboration, thus leading to improved patient outcomes and patient satisfaction. Additionally, nurses, in their diverse capacities, participate differently to advocate for patients through different ways, like patient education and policy reviews, thus making a positive impact. Vargas et al. (2019) discuss that the cost of living has gone up, especially during the pandemic, and therefore, many people find it difficult to access essential medical care. Therefore, I anticipate participating in community and patient advocacy by discussing economic matters that affect the community. This is important because the community and individual patients will understand the need to seek essential healthcare services and how they can manage the cost of medical care through the use of a combination of drugs that are more economical and effective (Vargas et al., 2019). Additionally, a dialogue with patients and the general population in the community is important because I will discuss economic issues, thus reaching a higher target population.

On the other hand, DNPs have a greater responsibility because they have more advanced knowledge, experience, and expertise to deliver high-quality services as well as ensure that other nurses working under them are providing satisfactory services. As a DNP, therefore, I will participate in enacting personal and professional commitment to community and patient advocacy by acting as a mediator between the patient and clinicians or junior nurses who may have overlooked some essential patient solutions. I will ensure that patients are receiving high-quality and effective treatments, legal procedures, and fair payment procedures where they get value for their money. Additionally, I will ensure that there are diverse applicable options for all patients considering their socioeconomic status and intervene on behalf of patients whose family members make harmful decisions by explaining the impacts of the decisions made and proposing alternative best practices.

As a DNP nurse, I have an ethical role to advocate for my patients through policy reforms. Therefore, I will enact personal and professional commitment to community and patient advocacy through the legislative field, where I can offer information to the elected representative. Additionally, nurses can participate greatly in nursing reforms, thus changing diverse policies to fit the level of care provided in healthcare facilities (Abbasinia, Ahmadi, & Kazemnejad, 2020). Therefore, I will seek a leadership position in like in the nursing board council, which will allow me to offer sound policy development and propose effective changes in the nursing profession, thus leading to the delivery of high-quality services. Additionally, I will propose the use of evidence-based practice through the application of interprofessional cooperation and care coordination, thus improving the quality of patient care services.

DNP-prepared nurses can greatly contribute to advocacy for positive social change by conducting community forums to address issues like the importance of accessing essential care services, applying evidence-based practices in the delivery of care services, and proposing effective and legal procedures that will improve patient outcomes (Beeber et al., 2019). as a DNP nurse, I will also advocate for the application for the use of correct social policies that will help in enhancing health equity, fairness, early prevention of injuries and diseases, as well as provision of patient education during discharge thus reducing readmission rates and emergency room visits.
