Personal Narrative
A Gratitude-Related Experience
What a day it was! I recall the day vividly, with tears of joy racing down my face. I did not anticipate the victory I was crowned with. It was just like any other business day as I executed my duties as an accountant in the company. Upon arrival, I was informed of an impromptu meeting that was scheduled in thirty minutes with the heads of different departments in the company: Personal Narrative.
I was instructed to prepare a brief summary of the company’s financial analysis, which I would present before the team. As I walked into the boardroom, the CEO of the company shook my hand and spoke some words that left me speechless, “Today is your day.” I did not understand what he meant until he welcomed everybody and briefed us on the purpose of the meeting. I felt immense gratitude to the CEO for crowning me the highest position in my department.
All the members in the room were executive heads, except for me. The words from my CEO echoed in my mind as I tried to evaluate their meaning. “Christina,” the CEO said, “I know you are curious about your presence amongst these officials.” I responded, “Yes. I was told to prepare for a financial briefing on the weekly financial report, which I am ready to present.”
The CEO remarked, “That must be very quick. However, the purpose of the meeting is to announce and appoint you as the Head of the Finance Department. The position has been vacant for a while, and the team has agreed that you can serve effectively. Do you accept the offer?” Trembling, I humbled myself with joy and gratitude for the position.
I became speechless for a moment, and all that came out of my mouth was, “Thank you. I am privileged to have this opportunity.” Several executives congratulated me and pledged their support to help me fulfill my new responsibilities successfully.
Why did I deserve this promotion? What value had I brought to the company? What is required in my new role? I was overwhelmed with different emotions.
Joy was my portion. On the other hand, I kept questioning my ability to deliver on the new mandates. But all in all, with great determination, all was going to be well. As devoted as I was before, I decided to approach the responsibility with integrity to achieve the expected goals.
I understand the pressure of working in such a position without prior experience, but learning and knowledge acquisition are my utmost priorities. I believe that the position was granted to me as a way of appreciating my effective role in my previous position. Besides, work ethics play an essential role in personal and professional growth (Grabowski et al.).
Adhering to work ethics influenced the executive officials’ decision to appoint me to the top management role. In this regard, I appreciate myself for integrating professionalism, including respect for others, integrity, hard work, and honesty in my duties, all of which contributed to my success in my career.
A new day that changed my title, my duties, and my portfolio. That was a great privilege and honor. I vow to uphold the same disciplines in all my duties within the company to improve its reputation and achieve its objectives. My gratitude goes to my CEO for this great opportunity and for believing in my ability to execute my role in an extraordinary way.
