The program that I have selected to serve as a model for my final project is Orphanage Support Services (OSS). OSS is a program that provides support to orphans and vulnerable children in developing countries.

My Personal Core Values Statement

An Effective Leader

I believe an effective leader can inspire and motivate others to achieve a common goal. Leaders show high levels of creativity, innovation, and risk-taking to succeed. They are also effective communicators, good listeners, and have a strong ability to build relationships (Pranitasari, 2020). The interdependence of team members is another important characteristic of an effective leader. Leaders understand that no one can achieve success alone and that everyone has a role to play. They also understand cultural and global diversity can create an inclusive environment that values everyone’s contributions (Freeman et al., 2017). Subsequently, their followers trust and respect them, and they can gain the trust and respect of others. For instance, leaders show integrity by being honest and transparent. They are also ethical, reliable, and fair.

Why I Want to Be a Program Administrator

I have a dream to make programs like OSS more effective in their mission to support orphans and vulnerable children. I want to help create a world where all children have the opportunity to thrive. I believe that every child deserves love, care, and protection. I aim to ensure that every child can access quality early childhood education to reach their fullest potential. An administrator ignites the passion in others to make this happen. I want to be that administrator who will turn the OSS mission into reality. I want to help make this happen. It is my happiness to have orphans in my care and to give them the best support so they can grow up to be happy, healthy, and productive citizens of the world.

The Essential Personal Characteristics I Possess

I am a lifelong learner constantly seeking new opportunities to develop my skills. I have a strong ability to build relationships and develop a shared vision. In addition,  I am also an effective communicator and have a good understanding of cultural and global diversity (Sloof & von Siemens, 2021). I am committed to being honest and transparent in all my dealings. My followers will enjoy my optimistic attitude and my ability to find humour in almost any situation. Lastly, I strongly desire to help others and make a difference in the world.

The Essential Personal Characteristics to Develop

My main weakness is that I can be too trusting of people. It can sometimes lead to people taking advantage of me. Accordingly, I need to be more assertive and set boundaries with others. In addition, I need to work on my time management skills (Pranitasari, 2020). I often find myself taking on too much time and unable to complete everything I have committed to. This can be frustrating for me and those who are counting on me. Therefore, I need to learn to say “no” more often and to delegate tasks to others. Lastly, I need to continue to work on my communication skills. I need to learn to be a better listener and to ask more questions.

Cultivating the Additional Characteristics

There are several resources that I can use to help me develop the additional characteristics and competencies that I need. I can take classes, read books, or participate in workshops on topics such as assertiveness, time management, and communication (Sloof & von Siemens, 2021). I can also look to my friends and family for support and encouragement as I work on developing these essential qualities. Since mentors are so important to me, I can also seek mentors to help me develop the skills I need to become an effective program administrator. Lastly, I can pray for guidance and strength as I work on becoming the best person that I can be.
