I have not always been a positive person in life. I have always been afraid that something bad might happen and always expect the worst things to happen to me. For instance, when I apply for a job, I believe I might get it, but I am almost always confident that I will not. When a big opportunity comes my way, I always find a way to sabotage it, believing that I will not handle it and fail as I always do. Yet this is not true. From my records, I have had more successes than failures, but again, I feel I will fail in future endeavors. I believe one of my greatest fears is the fear of failure. This causes me to avoid trying things and miss out on major opportunities.
I came to realize, through my interaction with friends and families, that I am a negative person. I would usually speak to someone, and when I gave my suggestion, I would hear, “you are always negative.” This caused me to reflect deeply on myself and try to understand why I behave and think the way I do. I realized that my thoughts and behaviors were maladaptive and decided to change my perspective about things and try to overcome the fears that I had.
It took a long period, but I am finally in a place where I am willing to grab any opportunity, hoping that I will succeed and believing that even if I fail, I will still rise and get better. Accordingly, one of my greatest fears was becoming a nurse, which I thought would be difficult. After I reviewed my ways of thinking, I overcame the fear and took a course in nursing and realized that I am good at it and passionate about it.
