Your PICOT question of burnout in psychiatric nurses is pertinent and significant. You have successfully identified the relationship between burnout and poor patient safety outcomes in inpatient mental care. A potential way to enhance this PICOT format would be to specify the measurement of burnout further, such as whether it is conducted using a validated questionnaire, such as the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). Such an explanation may enhance the intervention aspect and improve search accuracy (McClinton, 2022). Furthermore, the comparison group (nurses with low/no burnout) is suitable; however, it may be beneficial to clarify this contrast more directly in your study, in terms of scores or groups. Your search plan is effective and encompasses an adequate range of databases. To add on, making it more detailed by using Boolean conjunctions of both nurse staffing and workload, as they often coexist with burnout, could provide a more solid outcome. In general, you have a structured evidence-based approach.

Your concern about the theory-practice gap among new graduate nurses is relevant and essential. Your PICOT format is well-defined, and your proposed intervention, the introduction of preceptorships and programmed transition periods, addresses a real-life problem that may impact nurse retention and patient safety. As a suggestion, one area would be defining how the areas of measurement of the terms, confidence, and fewer mistakes, would fall within the component of outcome. The data collection system would be more powerful with the inclusion of specific analytical tools, such as the self-efficacy scale or an incident reporting measure (Magon et al., 2023). Moreover, your inclusion and exclusion criteria are good. To add on, to increase your yield, the search strategy could be refined using terms such as nurse residency programs or new grad orientation. The fact that you are dedicated to reducing the educational practice gap is impressive. Continue doing a great job being part of the new nurse integration and patient outcomes.
