The Influence of Different Parenting Styles on Development

Various parenting approaches can substantially impact a child’s growth by influencing the child’s behaviors, attitudes, and overall outlook on life. Children’s resilience and self-sufficiency are fostered when the emphasis is placed on teaching independence, problem-solving, and facing consequences. While providing guidance and setting limits, being a friend and a parent simultaneously can strengthen the link between a parent and child while instilling respect for knowledge and authority (Brooks, 2023). Similarly, stressing compassion and intellect while keeping things simple in the classroom helps children deal with various scenarios. The basis for a child’s mental health and social abilities is laid by unconditional love, direction, and control when necessary. Overall, different parenting styles can influence a child’s development by shaping their autonomy, values, social interactions, and ability to adapt to challenges.

Important Things Parents Should Teach Their Children

Parents must teach their children a variety of teachings. Important lessons include developing emotional intelligence and a growth mindset and encouraging empathy, resilience, and a feeling of social duty. Children must be taught moral principles like kindness, respect, and honesty to develop into morally upright adults. Giving children the necessary life skills, such as communication, problem-solving, and financial literacy, helps them overcome obstacles and make wise decisions (Saravanakumar, n.d.). Parents may equip their children for success on the personal, social, and professional fronts in a world that is always changing by striking a balance between these moral guidelines and practical skills. Furthermore, educating children to respect various cultures, viewpoints, and backgrounds should be emphasized, as should cultivating open-mindedness and tolerance toward diversity. Teaching them the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainable practices fosters a sense of responsibility towards the planet. Lastly, guiding children in building strong interpersonal relationships and setting healthy boundaries equips them with the tools to successfully navigate friendships, romantic relationships, and professional collaborations.

Parenting Style That Relates To Me Most

The parenting approach in the movie that most closely resembles my own is the one where the parent places an emphasis on raising their child to be responsible, independent, and able to handle a variety of life’s challenges on their own. This includes teaching children useful skills like cooking and money management and guiding them to make wise decisions and accept the repercussions of their decisions. While attempting to be a friend to their child, parents also realize the necessity of establishing limits and rules, even if it necessitates not always agreeing (Berggren & Bergman, 2022). The ultimate objective of this parenting approach is to raise a self-reliant and well-rounded person; therefore, it emphasizes striking a balance between being a supportive presence and a leading figure.

Good Parenting Potential to Mitigate and Offset Difficulties at School

Good parenting can significantly reduce or eliminate a child’s challenges at school. A nurturing and supportive home environment and good parenting techniques can enhance a child’s emotional health, sense of self-worth, and general resilience. Parents may provide a safe environment for their children to voice their ideas and worries when they actively talk, listen, and engage with them. Any difficulties the child may experience in school, whether regarding academics, interpersonal interactions, or personal difficulties, can be identified through an open conversation (Denise Haunani Solomon et al., 2023). Parents may provide their children the tools they need to deal with these challenges in a healthier way by providing regular support, having problem-solving conversations, and validating the child’s feelings. Additionally, parents can encourage a child’s drive and passion for learning by modelling a growth mindset and a good attitude toward learning. Parents can educate their children that obstacles and problems are chances for progress rather than signs of failure by emphasizing effort and perseverance. This perspective can empower children to accept challenges, ask for assistance when necessary, and approach school with resiliency and determination.

Question

I want my kids to be able to, you know, get along with the rest of the family. I want my kids to be raised as, like I said, you know, I — I am not raising my kids the same way my parents raised me. And I also try to be their friend. So I would like my — my daughters to be independent when the time comes also, because that only does good for them. You know? They need to be able to go out there and learn how to do it by themselves, solve their own problems, and face the consequences. You know, I think my job as a mother and parent is to teach them the good, the bad, and the ugly choices that there are. You raise your kid, and when they turn 18, they still — your kids — they still live in their house, and they live in your house as long as they want to. They don’t have to pay rent, because we don’t make them pay rent. You know? We — they are there until they want to be. They get married. They want to take — they take their wives, they are welcome to. You know? We accept, you know, the grandchildren and the, you know. Hey, we have a full house. That’s okay. But we all love each other, and we help each other.

>> The thing I want to accomplish as a mother is to teach my child that the two most important things in life are to be nice and to be smart. If you keep what you teach a child really simple, they can adapt it to a thousand different circumstances. I see my role as a parent as teaching my child to be independent and to be able to do things for herself. Basic skills, from cooking all the way to managing her money.

>> Strive to have unconditional love for your child, no matter what. To respect them as an individual but give them guidance, which a lot of times — for a child — feels like control, and it is. And it is necessary because you have more wisdom. I realize that I would like to be his best friend, but there are some times when we can’t be best friends. When I have to set a guideline or set some parameters that he doesn’t like — like curfew. When school is in, even at 17-1/2, I think you need to be in every night at a reasonable hour. Even if you can vote in six months as an adult, you are still going to be a senior. And they push back. They don’t like that limitation, but that’s just one of the things we have to disagree about.
