Parenting Styles

Parenting Styles

Parenting has changed in diverse ways. Fifty years ago, mothers stayed at home caring for their children and family, while fathers went to work to support their families. Currently, more mothers are working, and more fathers stay at home while women support families financially. Besides, more children are now attending school. Wardle & Fitzpatrick (2016) state that “in the 1960s, women started work. Between 1870-the 1930s, more kids were attending school, and the third revolution heightened the rates of schooling for kids as mothers were homemakers and fathers made a living outside the home”. These words affirm the different ways parenting has transformed.

The one parenting idea that was surprising and interesting was that strollers currently face the opposite way, and they are way too expensive even though they have never been cheap either (Crow, 2019). Presently, strollers come with designs, and they now face toward the individual pushing the stroller instead of the baby facing away from the individual driving the stroller. Crow (2019) explains that while strollers have never been less costly, per se, it was not until lately that parents dashed out a month’s rent or more to buy one stroller. Besides, strollers have different designs. For instance, in 2011, the Donkey stroller was introduced by Bugaboo, a model that traded at $1500. A three-piece CYBEX stroller by Jeremey Scott travel system is too costly at $3100. This was interesting because I did not expect or believe a stroller could be this expensive. I thought strollers were cheap items; besides, they have different models, so I thought they should be less expensive.

The information gathered from the reading and my knowledge about early childhood would help me in the future to learn how to care for a family and children because I now understand the difference between past and current family changes. Most importantly, it has helped me acknowledge that a child’s safety is the most important thing, which will help me in my current and future career. Additionally, the information will help me reflect on and assess the safety of my learners at all times.
