NSG6101 Week 6 Discussion

The problem is insufficient management of chronic pain, resulting in patient suffering. The research question that will be used in the study is: How does insufficient management of chronic pain impact the physical and mental wellness of adults with chronic pain: NSG6101 Week 6 Discussion.

Sampling

Sampling is the process of predetermining a subset of the population to collect data from. The most preferred sampling type for the research is convenience sampling. The convenience sampling method is appropriate for the study design as it allows adults with chronic pain to participate. Persons selected, in this respect, are those who meet the selection criteria, agree to the study terms, and are willing to contribute to the items of the study.

The sample reflects the population as identified in the purpose and problem statement. Foremost, the sampling technique allows the elucidation of persons with chronic pain within the community. It also facilitates the exploration of how they are affected by the pain. The sample size produced from convenience sampling may be large, as the technique is straightforward and, therefore, appropriate for the study.

Likewise, findings from larger sample sizes may be generalized. However, the high non-random nature of the technique makes it susceptible to biases, limiting its generalizability (Ahmed, 2024).

Research Design

The case study design is the preferred research design for the proposed study. Case study designs are a form of qualitative research that allows researchers to draw upon diverse data sources, such as interviews and observations, to examine a group or individuals (Priya, 2020). This design is aligned with the problem and purpose statement, the stated hypotheses, and the theoretical framework guiding the study, as it facilitates the exploration of the impact of chronic pain on mental wellness and quality of life.

Question

Discussion Question

Begin
your discussion by sharing your problem statement and research question. Next, discuss your sampling plan. In addition, discuss your research design. Consider the following as you craft your response.

Sampling
How will the sample be selected?
What type of sampling method is used? Is it appropriate to the design?
Does the sample reflect the population as identified in the problem or purpose statement?
Is the sample size appropriate? Why or why not?
To what population may the findings be generalized? What are the limitations in generalizability?

Research design
What type of design will be used?
Does the design seem to flow from the proposed research problem, theoretical framework, literature review, and hypothesis?
