NSG 4076 Week 9 Discussion
The discussion will focus on the causes of death. The main causes of extinction within the US include heart disease, Cancer, accidents, respiratory diseases, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, pneumonia and influenza, nephritis, nephrotic syndrome and nephrosis, and intentional harm. In this discussion, causes of death among non-Hispanic black males belonging to the age group 45-64 years will be compared with non-Hispanic white males in the same age group (45- 64 years).
The top ten diseases that cause death among non-Hispanic black males aged between 45 and 64 years include Heart disease, Cancer, accidental injuries, diabetes, stroke, kidney disease, respiratory disease, chronic liver disease, homicide, and lastly, HIV disease (CDC, 2019).
On the other hand, the top ten diseases that cause death among Non-Hispanic white males aged between 45-64 years are Cancer, heart disease, accidental injuries, suicide, liver disease, respiratory diseases, diabetes, stroke, septicemia, and influenza and pneumonia (CDC, 2019).
NSG 4076 Week 9 Discussion
In both ethnicities, heart disease, Cancer, and unintentional injuries are the major causes of death. However, deaths from suicide are higher among non-Hispanic whites in comparison to non-Hispanic blacks. This is supported by Hall et al (2019), who found that the rates of deaths from suicide had significantly increased among Whites when compared to Blacks. On the other hand, deaths from diabetes and stroke are more among non-Hispanic blacks in comparison to non-Hispanic whites. These differences can be attributed to the interaction of determinants of health because different factors and social ecologies influence a population’s health (Stein et al., 2017).
