NSG 4076 Week 2 Project – Describing the Aggregate

Tectum Medical Research LLC is the facility on which I have selected to work for my capstone project, and it is also the facility on which I will concentrate my focus during the aggregate community windshield survey. The institution is located in the city of Hollywood in the state of Florida. Tectum Medical Research LLC is a community health centre that provides health-related services to those who live in the surrounding area. The majority of the employees who work in the facility are between the ages of 25 and 60; however, for my aggregate, I selected those between the ages of 30 and 50. Hollywood is a city in the state of Florida that is located in Broward County. With a projected population of 155,689 in 2020, it is the 12th most populous city in Florida and the 164th most populous city in the United States. At the moment, Hollywood’s population is growing at a rate of 0.28 per cent per year and has increased by 10.60 per cent since the most recent census, which recorded a population of 140,768 people in Hollywood with a poverty rate of 12.65% and a median household income of $77,981. Currently, the median rent is $1,217 per month, with a median property price of $254,000. Hollywood’s median age is 41.6 years, with men being on average 39.8 years old and women on average 43.3 years old.

A developer from California named Joseph Wesley Young laid out the town’s layout in 1921, and it was officially established in 1925. Before that, Hollywood was covered in pine and palmetto trees, with a few tomato farms. After a devastating hurricane devastated the city in 1926, a tremendous effort was made to reconstruct it. After World War II, the city experienced significant growth.

Cancer and heart disease are the leading causes of mortality in the Hollywood, Florida, region. Cancer is the top cause of death in males, but heart disease and stroke are the leading. Causes of death in women (Barge-Schaapveld et al., 2018). The prevalence of HIV/AIDS and syphilis in this county is much greater than the prevalence of these diseases throughout the entire state. Compared to women of the same age, males of 18 years and older are slightly obese, as are females of the same age. An individual’s life expectancy in Hollywood is 76 years. A total of 37,810 cases of COVID-19 have been documented in Broward County, according to the county’s public health department, and the area has a high prevalence of community transmission in general.

The reason why I chose this community and aggregate is that COVID-19 community transmission is common in this area, which necessitates developing preventative ways to help reduce transmission. The second reason is that understanding how social interaction contributes to the spread of COVID-19 and what measures would be most effective in preventing its growth would be useful, especially in public places where the rate of interactivity occurs at a higher rate. In addition, I would like to know why cancer and heart disease are on the rise and what may be done to lower the mortality rates connected with these conditions.

Age and condition of the homes in the community

Nearly halfway between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, the City of Hollywood is a beachside hamlet. Hollywood, Broward County’s third-largest city, was established in 1925 by Joseph Young and has a population of about 153,000. As a general rule, the average year-round high temperature in Hollywood is 83%, while the average year-round low temperature is 68%. The great majority of the houses and apartments are fairly new, while some of the structures date back to several decades. In addition, the majority of houses have tiled pitched roofs. There are various house categories in Hollywood. Single-family homes make up approximately 59 per cent of all dwellings in Hollywood, with apartment complexes accounting for approximately 32 per cent. Mobile homes are especially notable because they account for around 3 per cent of all dwellings. Households with three bedrooms account for 40% of all households. Only 2% of households have four or more bedrooms. There are more than 50 homes that are specifically designed as nursing homes for elderly people.

Location and condition of parks and other recreational areas

In the City of Hollywood, there are over 35 parks and stunning beaches, making it a great place for any form of activity. These parks include Sal Oliveri Veterans Park, John Williams Park, and Holland Park.

Amount of space between homes and businesses and Neighborhood Hangouts

There are only a few parks, but the ones that have been seen appear to be well-kept, and they are only a few driving minutes away. Housing units are close together, and there are numerous business retail complexes with many small stores, including restaurants, hair salons, and nail salons, amongst other things, in the area.

Transportation in the Community

The primary mode of transportation in Hollywood is automobiles. As a result, the road network is well-connected. Every household in this neighbourhood has an average of two vehicles. Hollywood is also well-served by a fast transport system that is well-connected. In addition, most public places are equipped with a bicycle docking station, which stimulates the use of bicycles and helps to decrease urban traffic congestion. This guarantees that the transition from one area to another is seamless. The city’s well-placed signage and traffic signals have made moving around considerably easier. This ensures that the traffic flow remains consistent.

Quality of streets and sidewalks

There are some of the most dangerous thoroughfares for pedestrians and cyclists in the country in Florida, but the state has developed an innovative design strategy to solve these issues over time. It’s been decades since the state’s roads were designed with automobiles in mind, and they’re still deadly. Other states should take note of Florida’s innovative approach to street design. The Florida model recognizes that roadways have other functions in addition to transporting automobiles, such as being public spaces, rights of way for pedestrians and bicyclists, and hubs for commerce and community identity. For example, if you’re in the city centre, you’ll need a different design than if you’re in the suburbs or the countryside. For a state Department of Transportation, these seven context zones reflect a novel and common-sense approach to street design. The road and walkway surfaces are good, and the floor coverings and drainage system both appear to be well-maintained. Street lighting and safety measures are installed on the walkways to ensure the community’s safety.

Types/numbers of stores and other businesses

As of 2018, Hollywood’s average per-capita income was $30,898, making it the state’s second most affluent city and the third most wealthy city overall. Assuming a family of four, this amounts to an annual salary of $123,592. Despite this, Hollywood is home to both wealthy and poor people. There are a variety of stores in the community, with grocery stores accounting for the majority. The main economic activity in the region is tourism and hospitality. Other businesses that are doing good in the region include hotels and recreational centres.

People out in the Community

One hundred fifty-four thousand eight hundred seventeen people lived in Hollywood in 2019, according to the most recent census data. Though established in 1925, the city had tremendous expansion in the 1950s and 1960s, and it is currently Florida’s 12th largest city. An estimated 6,012,331 people were living in the Miami metropolitan region in 2015, making Hollywood a major metropolis. Face masks are being worn by some members of the community, but the majority are not wearing face masks. There is a diverse range of races and ethnic groups represented in this city. The members of the community appear to be close to one another and look out for one another. They appear to be in a good relationship as they share spaces in harmony.

Race/Ethnicity

In Hollywood, Florida, there are 1.32 times as many White residents, with 59.2 thousand people, as there are residents of any other race or ethnicity. The second and third most frequent ethnic groups in the city were White (Hispanic), with 44.9 thousand persons and Black or African American (Non-Hispanic), with 26 thousand residents, respectively.

Cleanliness of the Community

The Department of Public Works oversees some initiatives aimed at maintaining Hollywood’s aesthetic appeal. Efforts like these can only succeed if volunteers help out. We look forward to having you on the team. Residents and community groups can join in the Cash for Trash and Adopt-A-Street programs, as well as Beach Sweeps, which take place once a month. They are designed to keep the beaches, neighbourhoods, and streets of Hollywood clean and litter-free. There is a good sense of order and cleanliness in the community. Public spaces such as parks and other common gathering areas are clean and well-maintained. There is no litter on the streets, and the pavements are well arranged to ensure that traffic continues to move smoothly.

Billboards or other media displays

Billboards and other forms of mass media advertising abound in the city. Most of these billboards promote smartphones, fashion, and technology. The majority of the billboards are white, which is understandable given that white people constitute the majority of the population (59 per cent). Advertising for food and beverages is also prominently promoted on billboards. Young people are the most visible and influential commodity advertised on billboards across the city.

Places of Worship

The right to worship exists in Hollywood, Florida. Religious affiliation in the region is dominated by Catholicism, which accounts for over 10% of the population. Protestantism accounts for 5.7 per cent of the population, while Judaism accounts for 2 per cent. There is also a small percentage of Muslims in the community.

Availability of Services

In Hollywood, Florida, there are different types of services available to the public. Service providers range from those who supply high-speed internet to those who deliver healthcare and supplies. The advancement of technology in the city has resulted in a significant improvement in service offerings. This has resulted in increased efficiency and effectiveness in the service sector.
