For this week’s discussion, this writer has chosen to examine the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) website. The goal of this institute is to improve population health and healthcare worldwide. The organization has identified disparities within global communities, including deficiencies in care and the high financial costs associated with existing healthcare systems. The IHI introduced the Triple Aim initiatives, an all-encompassing framework for quality in healthcare that can be applied to healthcare payment reform (Thirukumaran & Rosenthal,2021).

The Triple Aim initiatives focus on better health outcomes within populations, better experience of care, and lower cost per capita while promoting current evidence-based practices (IHI, 2023). The Triple Aim initiatives are derived through utilizing the six critical components of safety, effectiveness, timeliness, equity, efficiency, and patient-centeredness. In the IHI framework on the experience of care, two perspectives are considered—patient experience and quality of care. The first perspective is the individual who interacts with the healthcare system and evaluates care. The second is the healthcare system, which focuses on designing a high-quality patient experience. The IHI lists several educational guidelines for treating different types of patients and delivering safe care. They provide links to evidence-based interventions, educational resources, membership programs, fellowship programs, and strategic partnerships that will further aid healthcare providers in engaging in activities to improve health outcomes.

“Population health aims to improve the overall health of populations, including traditional health services, preventive care, and health promotion” (Kokko, 2022, p. 307). Accessing and utilizing the resources available to the practitioner can enable that practitioner to ensure population health and the best evidence-based practices available for the care of individual patients.
