NR 501 Week 5 Reflection On Learning
I envision my nursing practice as a master-prepared nurse-led by a few nursing theories I have learned about this week. Seeing that the Asder population is gaining numbers and will most likely be the population I care for, I am leaning toward the Transtheoretical Model (TTM). I learned the origins of this theory, and it was created for older adults but can be used in a range of age groups from childhood to older adults. To keep individuals of that age group at a low risk for many modifiable chronic diseases, I will need to take steps to create a preventative approach to their care and teach them why it is essential to have that approach.
Not only is TTM ideal for prevention, but it is also an excellent tool for redirection. Most older adults are pretty set in their ways, and old habits are hard to quit, but with the right tool like this theory, I can facilitate new practices and better health in that population. This theory is also an excellent tool for personal growth and empowerment for those suffering from a chronic illness. It allows them to take control of their situation and progress toward a more independent and fulfilling life.
