In Week 2 of this Course, I graded myself on the AACN Essentials Nursing Assessment as a 37. When reevaluating with the Week 8 AACN Essentials Nursing Assessment, I received a 44. The improvements that I have seen over these eight weeks have been with professionalism and holding a higher vision of proper morals with being a nurse. Teamwork is essential to thriving in the nursing workplace. The Course Outcome that I feel that I have improved the most on is Course Outcome 3, “Communicates effectively with patient populations and other healthcare providers in managing the healthcare of individuals, families, aggregates and communities.” Finkelman states, “The need to work together as a team, in both nursing teams and interprofessional teams, which is challenging due to differences in age, cultures, and other aspects, though these factors enrich the workforce” (Finkelman, pg. 2). By working professionally and incorporating other team members strengths with coordinating care, I have grown to visualize which essentials needed improvement and incorporate these changes. World Healthcare Organization (WHO) found that “Interprofessional healthcare teams understand how to optimize the skills of their members, share case management, and provide better health services to patients and the community. The resulting strengthened health system leads to improved health outcomes” (pg.196). It has been determined that one member of healthcare is unable to appropriately conduct all the tasks necessary to maintain or improve any patient’s health status. The Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice mentions, “Fundamental to effective interprofessional and intra-professional collaboration is a definition of shared goals; clear role expectation of members; a flexible decision-making process; and the establishment of open communication patterns and leadership” (pg.22). I’ve learned the tasks each team member can provide, utilized proper delegation, and incorporated discussions with clinical leaders to optimize the quality of care for each patient and ensure proper discharge needs are met. This class has definitely been a great learning experience and enabled me to visualize the complexities of the work environment and the struggles with reimbursement due to readmissions. Collaborative Healthcare NR447 provided multiple breakdowns of leadership and delegation as well as learning to become a better mentor for new nurses who want to thrive in the nursing field.
