New Employee Onboarding
According to Watkins (2019), new employee onboarding helps new hires familiarize themselves with company policies, job functions, and business processes. The skills and knowledge acquired from the process help them become effective organizational members. Subsequently, onboarding gives new hires a 360-degree perspective of the company, including its culture, values, and functions. Employees use different innovative approaches for successful new hire onboarding.
Blended route onboarding is one of the standard methods of new employee orientation. It involves using a mix of traditional onboarding techniques and technology (Mullen, 2021). It usually occurs on the first day of reporting to work or may happen before employees come for work. For instance, HR teams send employees personalized messages through online communication. Managers may prepare employees before the onboarding exercise to ensure they are familiar with their expectations.

HR teams also use simulations to prepare employees for work. Employees may feel nervous and intimidated by their new work environment in the initial days as they are unfamiliar with what is expected. As a result, real-time simulations must alleviate anxiety, prepare employees for their new job functions, and familiarize them with their new work environment (Burns, 2019). A good example is Ernst & Young, which provides employees with a virtual tour of their workplaces and other information about the company.
Besides, interactive videos are an excellent way to familiarize employees with new job functions. Such an approach should begin with a message from the CEO, highlighting essential aspects of the organization, including its history, financials, and milestones (Torres, 2016). The strategy goes a long way to instill a sense of pride in the organization, besides allowing the new hire to provide feedback. Furthermore, evidence shows that onboarding using interactive videos increases the likelihood of employees staying in the company by 15%. The method gives employees enough time to come up with questions they could ask as they start working.
