MSN 600 – Week 4 Discussion
I have designed my EBP project to help examine how effective pico laser treatment is in reducing hyperpigmentation in women with melasma. The evidence-based findings from this project will be implemented by critically evaluating the evidence developed from the project. This will involve validating the project results internally by reviewing the validity of the research methods and the research process and externally by weighing against the current and existing evidence from quality sources. Such validation ensures that the results are generalizable and applicable to new and different patients (Ramspek et al., 2021). After evaluating the evidence, the next step is to engage with the various stakeholders, including patient groups, the health facility where the evidence-based findings will be implemented, and other healthcare providers. Such will assist with the implementation by ensuring the evidence implemented is shaped as per the preferences of the patients and available resources.
There are some challenges anticipated during the implementation of the evidence-based findings. For instance, since laser therapies are capital-insensitive to implement, and there may be a lack of enough staff at the facility with hands-on skills in operating the pico laser therapy machines, the implementation may experience some resource-related challenges to implementation. Another anticipated challenge is the unwillingness among some patients and patients to shift from topical treatments to laser therapy.
To address these anticipated challenges, I intend to employ a collaborative approach to implementing the findings. In fact, collaborating with major stakeholders and engaging with them on how changes will impact patient outcomes significantly facilitates the implementation of research findings (Speroni et al., 2020). Other strategies to address the challenges will include implementing the findings on a pilot basis and tailoring the implementation process to the available resources.
