Moon Journal Week 4
Monday, October 7 at 8:38 pm
Thoughts: The moon was not visible on this day, which enabled me to observe the deep indigo sky and light clouds. The absence of the moon in the sky also allowed me to appreciate the beauty of the night sky and reflect on how the sky and other celestial bodies influence emotions.

Thoughts: The moon was clearly visible on this day. The waxing crescent cast a soft glow that illuminated my surroundings, evoking emotions of tranquility. Viewing the moon also made me think about the impact of the moon’s phases on a person’s mood and human behavior.
Wednesday, October 9 at 7:12 pm
Thoughts: The moon was bright on this day, and I could view its different surface features through binoculars. This observation made me consider how lunar features are studied and mapped and their historical significance.
Thursday, October 10 at 7:56 pm
Thoughts: The moon was also clearly visible on this day. Its brightness created a magical atmosphere that made me concentrate on the moon and ignore the stars scattered across the sky. The fact that the moon was almost full made me think about how the full moon is celebrated in different cultures and its significance to them.
Research Questions
Based on my review of the Moon Journal entries from weeks 1 to 3, I identified key themes such as the moon’s role in personal reflection, celestial phenomena, and cultural significance. Here are three research questions derived from the journals and explanations for each.
Research Question 1: How does observing the moon and celestial phenomena influence personal reflection and emotional well-being?
Explanation
Throughout weeks 1-3, I realized that observing the moon evokes emotions, memories, and introspection, such as reflections on new beginnings and a calming effect. This question could explore the psychological impact of celestial observation, aligning with ideas about nature’s role in mental health.
Research Question 2: What are the cultural interpretations of the moon and celestial bodies, and how do these align with personal beliefs?
Explanation
The journal entries in Week 2 and Week 3 emphasize curiosity about cultural meaning, such as the spiritual significance of the moon and cultural beliefs about constellations and shooting stars. Investigating cultural narratives about the moon could deepen understanding of its symbolic value across societies and within personal contexts.
Research Question 3: What role did celestial bodies play in ancient navigation, and how has this knowledge evolved over time?
Explanation
In Week 3, I reflected on celestial navigation used by ancient civilizations and expressed curiosity about modern use. This question would examine the historical context of celestial navigation and compare it to current practices, bridging historical science with contemporary space exploration.

Question
PROFESSOR INSTRUCTIONS: please continue to observe the moon and journal your findings. Consistant observation and recording is part of the process of this assignment.
Specifically:
For this week, continue observing and describing the moon in your journal, and then please come up with 1-3 research questions based on your overall observations and wonderings. Please explain why these questions came up to you – are they based in something you saw or didn’t see? something that you just wonder about now that you have some connection with the moon? something that seems to be a pattern or random – that you are unsure about? Or any other reason you may have.

- OKAY SO THIS WEEK THE MOON WAS VISIBLE EXCEPT FOR MONDAY SO FOR MONDAY YOUR GOING TO JUST DESCRIBE WHAT YOU SEE IN THE SKY AND THEN FOR THE OTHER DAYS YOUR GOING TO DESCRIBE THE MOON UNDER THE PICTURES. THEN YOU’RE GOING TO COME UP WITH 1-3 RESEARCH QUESTIONS BASED ON MY OVERALL OBSERVATIONS AND WONDERINGS. SO, I WILL BE UPLOADING MY OTHER 3 OBSERVATIONS THAT YOU GUYS DID FOR ME SO YOU CAN COME UP WITH 1-3 RESEARCH QUESTIONS AND EXPLAIN WHY THESE QUESTIONS CAME UP TO YOU, ARE THEY BASED ON SOMETHING YOU SAW OR DIDN’T SEE? SOMETHING THAT YOU JUST WONDER ABOUT NOW THAT HAVE SOME CONNECTION WITH THE MOON? SOMETHING THAT SEEMS TO BE A PATTERN OR RANDOM THAT YOU ARE UNSURE ABOUT? OR ANY OTHER REASON YOU MAY HAVE.
