Migrants in Australia

Migrants in Australia

Based on the new trends of immigrations, explain the following potential needs for migrants in Australia.

Australia receives a large number of migrants fleeing their countries of origin for safety and security issues. Syria and Afghanistan are the leading countries of origin for migrants who have been settled by the Australian government (Balint & Simic, 2018). Many of these migrants are people seeking asylum; hence, they need protection from any dangers. Protection includes more than just physical refuge. These people also deserve the freedom they lacked in their countries of origin, including the freedom to move around and access basic needs. The migrants in Australia also need protection from physical, mental, and emotional issues associated with their experiences in their countries. Many refugees come from war countries. They are forced to be separated from their family and loved ones in the process of seeking security. They also face a lot of discrimination, exclusion, and bad treatment from people with negative attitudes about refugees and asylum seekers (Davidson, Murray, & Schweitzer, 2008). Thus, many of them have high risks of mental health issues that need to be addressed.

Identify any historical issues in relation to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and the land that the service is on, including at regional and state levels. If you are not currently employed or on work placement, you can choose an area within Australia?

There are some significant issues that affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia. These communities have long been losing their lands and sense of security. A lot of the areas where they practiced their spirituality, culture, and ancestry have been lost to people who take over their lands (Hunt, 2013). Additionally, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders have a high risk of mental health issues connected to widespread loss of loved ones, unresolved trauma, violence, and the risk of losing the cultural identity they have struggled to preserve throughout history (Hunt, 2013).
