My favorite topic so far is viruses. I discovered that viruses lack many basic life processes. For example, viruses lack cells, cannot convert food into energy, and depend on the host for food and replication (Mader & Windelspecht, 2017). Consistently, viruses have different genetic materials. The genetic information can be RNA or DNA (Mader & Windelspecht, 2017). Besides, there are more than a million types of viruses. Currently, there is a global pandemic. Covid-19 started in Wuhan, China, and has spread to all nations worldwide. The primary way that viruses survive is by hijacking the host cells’ internal mechanisms. They take over their biochemical mechanism upon entry, resulting in protein synthesis and viral replication (Mader & Windelspecht, 2017).

YouTube has improved my learning. The most successful thing that has helped me is YouTube tutorials. Many professors on YouTube post content about microbiology, and I can choose videos that best suit me. Besides, I prefer learning with visual components. YouTube videos also have stepwise instructions, which make me easily understand microbiology.

Furthermore, YouTube is also a free platform. Consequently, I do not have to pay subscription fees unless it is a premium package. It thus allows me to study microbiology without worrying about the expenses I will incur.
