The purpose of the proposed research is to explore the impact of insufficient management of chronic pain on the quality of life and mental wellness of adults within the community setting: Methodology.

Extraneous Variables (Control Plan)

Extraneous variables are factors that may influence the outcomes of the research but are not under research. Some extraneous variables that may be apparent during the study include the mannerisms of the investigators, the weather of the day, the health literacy levels of the participants, and the age of the participants.

The conduct and behavior of the investigators play a role in the data collection phase. Poor mannerisms of the researcher, as demonstrated by poor attitudes and biases, may affect how they approach and engage the participants. This may further result in information suppression and subsequently impact the study outcomes.

Likewise, environmental factors, such as the weather of the day, may affect the result. Poor weather conditions may result in lower participation in the research process by diminishing their willingness to participate. Additionally, adverse weather conditions may directly impede the process.

Health literacy levels and age of the participants also have a direct impact on the outcomes of the study. Lower health literacy may result in a poor understanding of the provisions being investigated. This may result in the misrepresentation of the facts under study.

Instruments

Several measures will be used to control the extraneous variables. Foremost, the research process will standardize the procedures to ensure all participants are subjected to similar experiences. Likewise, a statistical control method will help account for any variable observed during data gathering. Consistently, questionnaires are the preferred data collection instruments for the study.

Questionnaires are data collection tools that integrate a set of questions on the phenomenon under scrutiny. These questions are designed to prompt the participants to provide information that will be used to address the research question. The validity of questionnaires defines the extent to which they measure the concept under scrutiny.

Reliability, on the other hand, is the degree to which the tool produces the same results when applied multiple times under constant conditions (Oldland et al., 2021). The validity of the questionnaires used in the proposed research will be assured by basing the questions on the research problem and questions. This way, the responses will be specific to and aligned with the question.

Test-to-test reliability of the tool will be assured by administering it to the same participants at varied times under similar conditions. It will also be assured when the responses obtained from them are the same. Internal consistency will be guaranteed when the overall findings correlate with the response from each item asked during the interview.

Description of the Intervention

The intervention that will be applied during the data collection phase is interviewing. The participants, in this respect, will be interviewed on aspects of their quality of life and mental wellness. The interviews will be semi-structured, as the investigators will utilize a predetermined guide to ask the question. Responses obtained from the study participants will be analyzed and used to address the research question (Lodi et al., 2023).

Data Collection Procedures

The participant’s responses will be gathered via a video recording. The recordings will capture their input on the questions, as well as any body movements and gestures. The investigators will also observe the participant’s reactions to identify non-verbal cues suggestive of patient suffering. Likewise, the researchers will take notes on any reaction that may provide insights into patient suffering.
