Question
- Gathering Data
- Select FIVE scheduled medications that the resident takes regularly. Choose those medications that are most pertinent to treating your resident’s current medical problems.
- Creating the Map
- Draw a basic diagram of the human body including major organ systems on the paper provided by your clinical instructor.
- Arrange chosen medications around the human body diagram.
- Under each medication, bullet the assessment and monitoring data necessary to administer the medication safely – a minimum of three
- Medication Actions and Effects on Organs and Body Systems
- Intended target organs or body systems: draw a solid line from each mediation to the target organ(s) or body system(s) the medication is intended to affect.
- Unintended organs or body systems: draw a dotted line from each medication to the organ(s) or body system(s) the medication can negatively affect (side effects/toxicities). Under the medication name, list the three most common side effects as noted in your drug reference guide within your UCentral app.
- Along the length of the dotted lines, list at least two nursing (not medical) interventions to prevent and/or treat the unintended side effects/toxicities.
- Each map will look different, as each student will impart his or her own style. This is expected and offers rich learning opportunities for classmates.
- See the example provided by clinical faculty.
