Managing Individual Behavior

What did the test reveal about you?

The aim of the Jung Typology personality test was to discover personality types, strengths of preferences, and communication and learning styles. The test results revealed that I have an ESFP personality type which includes extraversion, sensing, feeling, and perceiving. Based on the results, my preference of extraversion over introversion and the preference of feeling over thinking are moderate. The test also showed that I have a marginal or no preference for sensing over intuition and a slight preference for perceiving over judging.

What can you infer from this test about your strengths and weaknesses?

Every personality type has its strengths and weaknesses. One of the things that I can infer about my strengths and weaknesses based on the results of the test is that I am able to understand my external environment because I can constantly and freely interact with other people. This characteristic is important in developing relationships, including business relationships. According to Taylor (2020), extroverts have a higher success rate in business because they possess good communication and interpersonal skills. The second strength is that I can easily persuade others due to my ability to understand the needs and values of others and consider other people’s feelings. Persuasion is vital in meeting various needs, such as getting a job or closing a business deal. Based on the test results, the main weakness of my personality type is that I am impatient with routine, and I rush to make decisions, increasing the risk of making bad decisions.

How does what you have learned about your personality type from your module background materials affect your motivation? Is this limited to a specific type of situation?

Learning about my personality type has increased my motivation to pursue a career in public relations. I have always been interested in becoming a public relations specialist. This career entails constantly interacting with people, which is why it is important to be social. The test results indicated that I am an extrovert. My module background materials about my personality type indicate that extroverts engage those around them, are energetic, and love interacting with other people and having fun. Based on this information, it is evident that customer relations is one of the career choices that I would make. According to Alkhelil (2016), individual values create a foundation for individual differences, and individual values influence career choices. These values arise from personal behavior, which often arises from a person’s personality. For instance, extroverts have different values from introverts because they are often social and focus on protecting people’s feelings, while introverts primarily only care about themselves and like spending time alone (Stanley, 2014). I, therefore, intend to continue working on my people skills by interacting with different kinds of people in different settings.

What specific steps can you take to increase your strengths and build up weaknesses?

One of the steps I can take to increase my strengths is attending different social events with different themes, such as business conferences and social gatherings. The second step is reading about different personality types so that I can have a better understanding of how other people behave to avoid judging them. I also intend to eliminate my weaknesses by applying critical thinking when making decisions to avoid rushing. I intend to review articles on critical thinking and how I can develop it. Lin (2018) argues that developing critical thinking allows individuals to develop more reasoned arguments, thus contributing to good decision-making. I also plan on practicing how to use the parts of critical thinking when making decisions. Haber (2020) identifies these parts as problem identification, information gathering, evaluating evidence, considering solutions, and choosing and implementing solutions.

Question

The SLP for this course involves making a personal assessment of a relevant set of skills, focusing on your strengths and identifying any weaknesses that may have been revealed. You will then create a plan by which you can “grow” your strengths and shore up your weaknesses. By the end of the project, you will have a personal management profile and action plan.

Managing Individual Behavior

Managing Individual Behavior

As we have discussed, your values and attitudes interact with your personality to create a strong effect on your work life. The fit between an individual’s personality and a company’s “style” is essential to job satisfaction. Someone who is risk-averse, for example, would probably be unhappy at 3M, a company with a reputation for innovation and risk-taking. Understanding the impact of your own personality on others helps you build productive work relationships with peers, subordinates, and bosses alike.

Refer to the required and optional sources for this module and any other materials that will help you understand personality styles and how they affect organizational effectiveness. Remember to follow Trident’s guidelines for masters-level writing. Citation and reference style instructions are available at Trident University’s Introduction to APA Style, 7th edition.
