Long-Term Health Implications of Biofeedback Wellness Therapies

Long-Term Health Implications of Biofeedback Wellness Therapies

Biofeedback therapies aid in the restoration of health through self-regulation by individuals. Self-regulation occurs, influencing involuntary processes such as breathing. Practitioners aid in this process through biofeedback training, which “is used in a variety of settings to improve academic, athletic and corporate performance, as well as improve health and wellness” (Frank et al., 2010). Additionally, the bioprocess results provide goals that clients focus on during rehabilitation, resulting in an optimal body state. This rehabilitation results in long-term health implications, including psychological and physical.

Regular self-regulation results in the promotion of an optimal healthy state. Different biofeedback therapies yield different body results. Relaxation and behavioral modification have impacts on various involuntary processes of the body. Operant conditioning biofeedback training aids in behavioral modification through physiological changes (Brennan et al., 2019). Long-term medical changes include musculoskeletal relaxation, chronic pain, bowel movement inconsistency, including constipation, and Raynaud’s phenomenon. Psychophysiological psychotherapy biofeedback training aids in relaxation by helping clients understand their psychological state, including stress, trauma, and anxiety (Frank et al., 2010). This training is efficient in psychological-related ailments, including ADHD (Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder), headaches, migraines, and physiological ailments since mental diseases present symptoms that can be reduced through biofeedback training.

Accordingly, biofeedback therapy involves biofeedback training, which involves two types. The two types are operational conditioning and psychophysiological psychotherapy biofeedback training with behavioral and relaxation modification results. Additionally, these biofeedback training methods have physiological impacts because not only do physical aspects affect the body’s physiology, but psychological ailments also present symptoms that affect the body’s physiology. Therefore, exercising biofeedback therapy will lead to an optimal physiological state with behavioral and relaxation modifications.
