With increasing globalization and competitiveness, leadership has gained the utmost parlance for organizational success, growth, and development. Even in healthcare organizations, leadership is important in determining the company’s success. The leaders control all the operations in a healthcare organization and direct how to effectively use the organization’s resources with gradual and sustainable development. All the activities, from planning to directing, controlling and follow-up, are well organized by the leader, who slowly approaches to attain organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
Leaders, in my opinion, are made. Everybody is an amateur initially. With a series of knowledge, expertise, work experience and skill development, leaders gradually adapt themselves to dynamic situations getting a strong grasp on the company’s operations.
Give three examples of a great leader you admire in healthcare, elaborating on why you admire this selected leader.
One of the healthcare leaders that I admire is Adaar Poonawalla, the CEO of Serum India. This company collaborated with a UK joint to produce the maximum number of vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic. It streamlined the healthcare settings in such a way affiliating with the government that the company could lead the vaccination drive in such a populous country smoothly. With super operations, planning and distribution system, the company, under the leadership of this eminent healthcare leader, was able to attain self-sufficiency in vaccines in the country. Apart from this, the planning of the leaders helps the company to distribute vaccines to other nations, thereby having a vital role in controlling the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. Shared leadership, advanced research and excellent planning helped the country and the healthcare industry in developing countries to attain self-sufficiency in controlling this disease. Hence I admire this leader and his leadership skills.
Discuss two challenges this selected leader faces and how you would successfully tackle these challenges. Provide specific examples to support your rationale from readings throughout your program or peer-reviewed journal articles.
Since this leader primarily had to produce and distribute vaccines in India, the mass population resided in rural areas. Further, the vaccines need to be transported in a refrigerated condition. The roads of this country or not smooth and accessible, especially in rural areas.
The leader, under the guidance of Govt along with their collaboration, was able to distribute the vaccines in a streamlined, coordinated and strategic manner. Also, the healthcare professionals and clinicians who vaccinated the citizens were government officials able enough to give a positive result to this vavaccine rive of the leader, giving a remarkable result to the vision as a whole.
Even after the vaccines were developed, the health care and clinicians needed appropriate training to vaccinate the citizens on a large scale. Again, the leader and the organization started human trials and training before the vaccine’s launch. This is merely possible with high-class planning and top-notch execution. With collaboration with India’s central and state governments, Adar Poonawalla envisaged his dreams personally, professionally, nationally and internationally.
