Leadership and Accountability

Leadership and Accountability

What is the responsibility of a leader in health care? What are your expectations of yourself in your own actions?

A leader in the healthcare sector is tasked with a number of responsibilities that can only be affected through strong communication. A leader should be able to promote ideas to their subordinates and which they will implement (Hackman & Johnson, 2013). A leader also helps staff to see the value of their input to the organization and enables them to overcome any obstacles to their work performance. A leader does not allow limitations to hinder the individual progress of staff members (Muench, 2014). Above all, a leader works at building staff to be the best they can be ethically, performance-wise, and in profitability (Avolio et al., 2013).

The expectations I have of myself are, in my opinion, not unreachable or unreasonable. Every evening before I go to sleep, I set targets that I can meet in my daily routines. I also have weekly, monthly, and annual targets. When I create a list of things to achieve in a day, I find that I have achieved a lot at the end of the year. My actions such as waking up early and utilizing my daytime well, are all geared toward meeting my targets.

What support would you seek to help you have clarity of mind, more trust in your subjective impressions of events that may be occurring in your organization, which may push you to look more deeply in the objective data of the case? Specifically, if you have suspicions about crimes occurring, what kind of support network will or do you have to give you wise counsel regarding what to do in that situation?

In the event that I am suspicious of a crime, the first thing that I do is to investigate if there be any truth to my suspicions. Things may look deceptive or sinister, especially where information is scarce. Suppose the findings of my investigations give me sufficient reason to believe a crime is in progress. In that case, I will approach my supervisor and relay the facts that I have collected and the reasons behind my suspicions. The supervisor will take the necessary action, which could be either requesting me to get more evidence or taking action themselves on the culprit of the crime.

What kind of accountability structures could or should be in place? How should we look at this in light of scriptural principles and biblical worldview?

Accountability in the Christian life is important because it removes isolation in a person’s life. Accountability also makes one responsible for their actions (Everist, 2010). Support structures should be in place in the church, community, and society at large that help people overcome issues they are struggling with. In the Bible, James exhorts the Christians to confess their sins to one another; the idea behind this is being accountable for one’s actions as well as being held accountable by others for actions taken (James 5:16). In the world, there are specialized groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous that help people struggling with alcohol addiction to overcome their issue by being accountable to others in the group.
